Ban Email Spam

Post by fredra »

For the past few months I have been testing various applications that stop Email spam.
The NEW Outlook in Office 2003 does have a functional "junk-Mail" folder which can block the user or the domain, after the mail comes in your "Inbox". However, the suggestions I provide does a much better job, by identifying "spam" and putting into another folder and it never gets into your "inbox".
Please go here to get the Open Source application. The software is called "SPAMBAYES" and does work seemlessly with Outlook.
Please make sure you read the instructions in the readme files on the page as it requires "training" to know what YOU consider "spam". It doesn't rely on DSBL lists, however, it is a bayersian filter system and there is no re-setting of your account for it to act as a proxy to your email.
One note of advice here, if you decide to use it...the two folders that it creates should have "Preview Pane" turned "off", as some emails deposit their undesireable load on your PC just by being viewed in the preview pane.
I hope this will help others in here.
P.S. It does not work with Outlook Express
Cheers

Thanks TonyT
I know about your efforts and I intend to activate when it becomes available, however, in the mean time I was getting an average of 50 spam messages per day. It was pi***** me off, so I had to do something about it on an urgent basis.
Between the 'virus" and 'trojan" writers and the "spam" emails I am getting so #$%^&* PO'ed at them. At one time I was bouncing it back, but my ISP was not very pleased and requested me to stop 'bouncing"..... also it didn't seem to work.
So when I found something that worked, I thought I would let others know about it.
I will wait until you tell us that it is online and I will be at the head of the line for activation.
Thanks again TonyT.
Cheers
