i have Earthlink aDSL, caps are 1500/128, live in Southern CA
I get about 1150/136, consistently (at least i can be happy about that)
I play games and download big files sometimes
I have only been disconnected once since i got it, and the server was only down for a short time.. 5 min or less maybe
I have been pleased so far, it just would be cool to get 180+KB/sec dloads, my max seems to be about 140KB/sec. Overall very good experience, fast browsing, fast gaming...

BSDUrgent - 1
CacheTimeout - 600000
DefaultRecvWindow - 17424 or 23232
DefaultTTL - 64
EnableDNS - 0
GlobalMaxTcpWindoSize - 17424 or 23232
KeepAliveInterval - 500
KeepAliveTime - 14400000

Hey Sean, for your MTU.... it should be 1492 not 1500, try the fixes I suggest in my Help & Tips link to fix it and also I have the tweak for faster page loads there.

Ok, here's my Analizer Test
TCP options string = 020405ac01010402
MTU = 1492
MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which equals MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 63888
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 63888
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2555.52 kbps (319.44 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1022.208 kbps (127.776 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 116 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 01011100
Precedence (priority) = 010 (immediate)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 1 (high reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)

from your post & profile we know as folow:
728/128 PPPoE; 98SE, 450mhz, 64meg ram
mnosteele52 recomeded you optimal CN setings for cheking :2cool:
BUT
your above SG TCP/IP result HAVE NOT connections with
with mentionet recomentation
TOTALY diferent in several points - why?
in my opinion:
1. your answer to
GURU recomendation is 'weak'
2. no results of speed tests
3. what do you propose on actual your post 'guess-work'?

DSL is kwel I have two lines both around 6000 feet. Never down.
15000 feet is pushing it.. Anything over 12000 starts to drop in speed.. But I do know of one connection at 15030 that gets all of the connection speed.
DSL can beat Cable hands down if you plan to do things that cable wont allow you to.. OR live in Lobos neighborhood.
Both my DSL lines are always consistant My cable from ATTbi has a leak they refuse to fix So everytime it rains its down.. In the evening speeds drop to a quarter of the advertised speed.
Music and video stream better on DSL and more than likely DSL wont wine if you run a ftp server with apache.
Tweaking DSL is usually a one time deal because its more consistant..
(More stable than a Compaq(anything is))
I run 12 machines on a regular basis on the lines I have and could probably do it just fine on the two DSL connections and get rid of ATTbi
Note: get a good router

dannjr yours ...

unbelievable it even worst than my ISPservice
for me is simple - I have NOT choice

OTOH my be you have better climate (weather) than me hehehehehehe
BTW do you use two WAN router in your net?
PS for: PPPoE & firewall I also use router :2cool:
rom1MB; ram16MB; WAN; 4xLAN(inc.upL); com(dial-up buckup); VPN

Andrzej I use 3 seperate routers
1. Linksys 802.11b 4port T10/100
2. ABOCOM Router
3. Ugate3200 Router
4. Linksys VPN router for a backup
3 - speedstream bridges one as a backup
1 - 3com office connect cable modem
3 - 8 port uplink switchs 1 16port switch to the routers
3 servers 2 are Apache servers on Win2k pro 1 proxied mandrake9 file server for Data and internal LAN games
I gave the basic specs because I knew that be next
Its tied alltogehter with a total of 12 workstations 11 AMD 1 P3
Can support 50 to the Internet the way I figured it out. Or about without to much worrie.
One of the apache servers is for personal the other for business
FTP php SQL and perl all enabled.
AND yes my ISPs know. The cable is the only one that isnt used as a server line. But if need be can be ported.

I have a 1536/128 PPPoE SWB ADSL connection for 2 months now, I'm 4,080 ft from the CO, speeds are constantly in the high 1140's to 1200's/109 to 121kbps up range. Latency on DSL is better and lower, thus making web surfing more faster. Online gaming is better and enjoyable. I had cable modem service and the service always goes down, latency was higher and speeds was slower at peak time. I was very happy to switch to DSL, and since getting DSL, the speeds has been constant and the uptime has been 100%! Cable was up 99% of the time, 1% was due to cable outages or network upgrades. The only thing I miss from Cox is the speeds, but DSL isn't that bad considering it's $5 less than Cox, and the phone bill only went up once. Cable keeps going up every month. So I'm happy with my SWB ADSL connection. So if you're a gamer, wanting a 100% uptime high speed internet, DSL is for you! I love my DSL connection and I am very happy with my DSL connection

Once I tweaked the DSL using 63888, I don't have to tweak anymore, just be happy with the speeds and surf on. On the cable, I have to keep tweaking and tweaking when Cox switch routers or upgrade the network and the old RWIN won't work anymore.

My speeds are ok, BUT would luv to go faster than 748 down... I just did a d/l test thru pcpitstop.com... My speeds thru Verizon are up to 768 down and 128 upload... Is there nething I can do?? If not then I guess it's ok... Thx all...

Your not going to get anymore than 748, that's almost 100% of your caps. I would suggest an RWIN of 31944.

I'm an ADSL (384down/128up) user now for about 3 or so years now. My line was originally provisioned by Flashcom (They have since gone bankrupt). I'm now with a local ISP called Toad.net. When Flashcom crashed Covad was cool enough to hold the line and transfer it to the ISP of my choosing.
My new ISP are hit and miss. They offered a static IP which drew me to their service but now that I've had it for about a year now, they seem to be down bi-monthly and stay down for extended periods. Once I was without service for almost a week and the tech told me on the phone that a virus hit one of their routers which broke the hardware. I guess they thought I was too stupid to handle the truth, which was probly their engineers just didn't know how to reconfigured the router.
One cool thing about my service is that it decides it an SDSL (384/384) connection most of the time. When there is a problem over at the ISP the line goes back to ADSL but within a few days it's SDSL again. You don't hear me complaining and hopfully they won't read this post and figure out which account is mine.
I'm one of the lucky few that still have a line #. Which means my line is dedicated, for the most part. Most new DSL lines are based on the Rockwell "G-Lite" technology which shares bandwidth much like cable does. This isn't across the board but I do know that major providers like Earthlink, Verizon, Covad all use the G-Lite spec for new ADSL installs.
As far as the Cable vs DSL debate goes. If speed is the ultimate factor determining the technology to use then there is no reason not to get a Cable line. Cable downloads are much faster than DSL and in some areas faster than T1.
My experience with Cable is one of frustration. It tends to be inconsistent. Sometimes it is awesome, sometimes it leaves much to be desired.
DSL on the other hand is very stable. When my connnection is working correctly, while my speeds aren't great, my latency is always awesome. I'm a gamer so this is most important to me.
Finally, as another poster said. At 15000ft you may have line trouble and quite frankly I'm surprised that Covad agreed to put in the line at that distance. While theoretical distance is 18000ft (I think) most lines work the best under 12000ft. Again I'm one of the lucky ones that reside 8000ft from the CO. I'm moving in the next six months so it might be back to dial-up for me. *sigh.....*

All I have to choose from is Comcast or BellSouth Fastaccess.
Given what I know and have experienced with Comcast, I will take my DSL any day of the week.
I've had it for well over a year and have never had to call BellSouth once.
Given Comcasts reputation with costumer support, I believe I made the right choice.
