I've been reading the forums over here and seen you guys get 1mbps downloads and whats not...and so i'm mad...

Here are the specs on what i have:
Service: Verizon Online DSL 1.5mbps/128kbps
Router: D-Link DI-614+ w/2 computers hooked up to it
The Computer i'm on: HP w/1.2GHz Celeron, 128MB RAM, 30GB HD
The Problem: I get a 30KBps download speed - On A Good Day!(yeah, with a 1.5mbps line)

Sooo, whats wrong?!
If you guys could get me 100KBps i would excentric so start working that magic!

1 hi there sludge try this bellow first

if that dose not work then try this
2 go to command prompt type "ipconfig /release" that should give you some info then type "ipconfig /renew" this might help then try the Tcp/Ip Analyzer test. I not a mod here or anything but this once workewd for me

First, make absolutely sure that the IP address displayed at the top of the page is yours. If it is not, then you are measuring the parameters of the connection between SpeedGuide.net and the host that owns the displayed IP. That might be a web proxy, or a NAT device of some sort.

Web proxy servers save your ISP's bandwidth, however they often have a negative impact on your Web experience. With Proxy enabled, you might experience problems accessing some Secure pages, as well as decreased performance.

To disable the Proxy server in Internet Explorer, go into Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings. In there, disable proxy, uncheck "Automatic settings" and try again.

Note: Some ISPs, such as @Home automatically enable Proxy, regardless of your IE settings (if you have the @Home software installed). As a workaround, you might have to do the following:
Go into Start > Run and type: regsvr32 -u ahiehelp.dll
The above line should disable the @Home Web Proxy.
If the IP address displayed by the Analyzer is yours, then the readings are accurate. Complaining about them is equivalent to telling the manufacturer of your mirror that it is not reflecting your face accurately, because according to the description of your latest makeup kit, you should look much more attractive after applying it (my apologies to the male users, I couldn't come up with a more "manly" example :-) ).

Note: In Windows 9x, if the Analyzer reads only the RWIN value as 65535, while you have a larger number in the Registry, you might need to install the MS Vtcp.386 Fix.

btw, if it is the right one then here is that info for you guys to help me out with(umm, i doubt it is the right one, but then again, i'm not the genuis here):

DSL, PPPoE
Verizon Online DSL 1500/128
Windows XP

SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer

TCP properties for IP = xxx.xxx.xx.xxx ()
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 020405a00103030101010402
MTU = 1480
MTU is optimized for Windows XP PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1440
MSS is optimized for Windows XP PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 72000
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 36000
RWIN is not fully optimized (even though it is a comparatively large number). The unscaled RWIN value is lower than it should be, which can affect your connection to some servers. Also, RWIN being close above 65535 does not justify the header overhead of scaling. You might want to use one of our recommended RWIN values below.

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
506880 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
253440 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126720 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63360 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2880 kbps (360 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1152 kbps (144 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 51 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 11110000

Precedence (priority) = 000 (routine)
Delay = 0 (normal delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 1 (high reliability)
Cost = 1 (low cost)

umm, whats up with the mozilla 4.0 deal...
and, do you think that since i'm only getting 30-40kbps i should call Verizon and give them a little positive encourangment?

See, i just think that if i'm paying for 1500kbps i should be atleast getting half, or even an 1/8!

Hmm are you sure your not behide a proxy in your Browser type your ip that its telling you into google if a buch of stuff shows up you are probaly using a proxy just a idea it might work. your speed can also be affected by the distance you are from the main office but 40kb seems a little slow for a dsl

OK great, use the following settings in CableNut:

DefaultReceiveWindow = 192000
DefaultSendWindow = 16384
DisableAddressSharing = 1
InitialLargeBufferCount = 200
InitialMediumBufferCount = 480
InitialSmallBufferCount = 640
LargeBufferSize = 819200
MaxFastTransmit = 64000
MediumBufferSize = 150400
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 12800
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 4096
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
IgnorePushBitsOnReceive = 0
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 37440
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
SynAttackProtect = 1
Tcp1323Opts = 0
TcpLogLevel = 1
TcpMaxDupAcks = 3
TcpMaxHalfOpen = 100
TcpMaxHalfRetried = 80
TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1440
TcpSendSegmentSize = 1440
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = 37440
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 20
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 10
DefaultTTL = 64
DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
TcpMaxDataRetransmissions = 6
DefaultTOSValue = 240

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 & Ad Aware 6.0 to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link.

hey -
I'm kinda wondering...If Verizon says i get a 1.5/128 line does that mean i'm suppsed to get a 1.5mbps connection or a 1.5mbps downstream? probably a stupid question but i just want to make sure that i'm understanding correctly.

Oh, and how do i know what protocals i'm using - i don't want to delete anything importaint.

sludge as far as I know Verizon has 2 packages, 1500/128 & 768/128. As far as the protocols, if you are a stand alone pc (no network) then all you need is TCP/IP Internet Protocol.
