accurate is the term Shag...
When you are medivac'ed from the battlefield from Iraq( say Germany) and you die,are you counted as a battlefield casualty in the numbers.. or do you have to die in the battlefield.???

If you are killed because of enemy action, regardless of where you actually die, you are counted as KIA. You might start on the WIA list, depending on the nature of your injuries, but you will move to the KIA list if you die as a result of those injuries or anything after those injuries have occured.

The military keeps such specific records because (among other things) it affects death benefits and spousal survival benefits.

I can't believe we are even having this debate. Every soldier who fights and dies in a war like this deserves proper treatment and honor with the body, flag over casket, the whole nine yards, our soldiers put their lives on the line for this country and they deserve every honor for it. Anyone who says otherwise needs a kick in the ass.

I’m not sure about this... but I think I get a military burial when I do die (be it at the hands of Bouncer as I get caught with his favorite girl again) just because I put my nuts out there in Vietnam.

Not sure about that though. Knowing Bouncer… he’ll burry me with very little ceremony in the back 40 acres of Brembo’s land and then pee on the fresh dirt after he drinks the 12 pack.

It was a rough thread Zero..everybody knows someone or has a relative in the military, etc...everyone has something going on, maybe outside of this forum--offline.
I've taken criticism personal, in the past. But you really can't in this medium.

There are no hidden death counts. They don't go out and post them all over telephone poles for public knowledge because they are none of your business unless you are in the military. If you really wanna know about them you just had to ask one of us and we would have informed you about where you can find them.

Were you really in Vietnam MD? I wish I could hear all of your stories sometime, I could never get my grandfather to talk about WWII (he drove a light tank, had a sarge get shot and the bullet bounce in the turret through his body, and 3 of his tanks got knocked out by panzerfausts but he still survived). I really love hearing vet stories.

I've been married for 25 years and I've never told her a thing about what happened over there. It's a part of me and I will carry it until I die. I don't want it to be a part of her... or you.

I don’t know. I think about the stuff that happened and some doesn’t seem that bad. Maybe it wasn’t. It was a long time ago. Then other stuff was barbaric.

My son asks from time to time about this or that and when I think about telling him some of the stories… I’m appalled by how horrible it is when you put the memories to words.

Fortunately for me… I have lots of good drugs I take to keep the memories deep inside my tiny little brain. Pushing the memories deeper and deeper so they can’t bubble to the surface when I’m cleaning that AK-47 I smuggled back.
