Ok With my other post you may have seen the issues I'm having with my Current DVD RW Drive

It's the Mitsumi DW-7801TE

I talked to Mitsumi and they require me to ship it to them and get it repaired .... Instead I'm looking to upgrade to an 8x DVD+/-R Drive .....

I'm looking at one of these at the moment but need some input from anyone who might have some experience with them.

NEC:

Lite-On:

Any suggestions on other Really good Drives that pretty compatible with multiple Brands of DVD/CD R/RW Media (Imation,Memorex etc ... ) are welcomed.

I need Black BTW

Good deal then ... I just ordered it before coming in here to look ( impatience runs in the Family ;) )

How about some good reliable Media ? Something that plays music in most cd players , has good reliable Data storage ?

Ritek has been real good for me and my friends and from looking around the net the consensus seems to agree. 4x can be had at newegg for less that $1 each for a 50 pack.

Too bad the dually's are just around the corner. I will be picking one of those up when the media and drive are reasonable.

BTW I have a Lite-on 411s@811s and it works great!!!!!

I have been a Plextor fan for the past few monthes. I would suggest waiting for the dual layer writers.... Well... depending on the cost of media :)

dvdrhelp.com has alot of info on what media/drives are good.

http://www.speedlabs.org/ - discuss in depth about drives, media, firmware How-to's

Just bought a 50pack of RitekG04's. :D

Don't forget to look for updated firmware (for fixes) for that drive :thumb:

Thank G-Code ... I checke dout the DVDHelp site and someone mentioned that this Drive has now been known to be flashable with the 832 Bios which would enable it to burn dual Layer Discs :)
