Dan,

Well, enjoy your steak. I have a potential health issue which only I can change while I still have a chance. The quality of my life is more important than a steak.

It was your inference, sir. Sounds like you have a bit of homoerotic remorse.

They only eat veggies when it's in between a bun and meat and they're still going strong @ 80 plus. Damn all that veggie nonsense, I want to enjoy my food. Only thing I am careful with is my sugar intake since diabetes is prevalent on both sides of my family, other than that, it's no holds barred.

Thats good..glad your watching your health. I think for myself it I would find it rather hard to switch to grass or weeds similar to what I cut in the backyard over a nice juicy steak, Very few veggies can I eat.
Also very good idea ~if not included in cleanseing kit~ to do a parasitic purge, ask your Dr. for something spificly for it, or can use cloidial silver nitrate

Yet I heard so much about tofu.
My mom found some burger pattys that are made out of portabella mushrooms...they are ok...I'll take meat over them anyday..but if I don't got meat and I want a burger they'll do.
They are pretty tasty actually so if you can't have soy or tofu and you want a burger you should try those.

I was not suggesting the need to obviate opinions toward vegetarianism. It was a characterization of what is a typical response.

The only reason that you see the hackles on omnivores raise when someone announces that they are going vegetarian is because of all the militant veggies. For example, I was cooking a hamburger on a friend's grill the other day when his girlfriend came over and started screaming at me about using the "wrong side". How she can't use the grill anymore, ever, because OMGTEHMEATZ had touched the grill grates. And she still wouldn't concede the point even after I took the grate out and told her that if it bothered her that much that I'd scrape off the grate and run it through an oven self-cleaning cycle.
Vegetarians, by and large, are nuts. They believe that only their way is correct, and that anyone who eats meat is evil and destroying the environment and the world. That meat-eaters are the cause of all evil. And no, not all vegetarians are like that - but I'd love to actually meet one who doesn't look down on me for not being one.
So trade that typical for something colorful, and if it's crazy live a little crazy!

That girl was an extremist. I will never be that way. I would be able to cook my vegetables on the same grill as you cooked your hamburger. I might be a newb at this way of eating, but I know that I could never be extreme.

Let me stop you right there, Stephen.
Review this thread. Observe the need for the omnivores to make some meat eating commentary.
The only "militant" behavior has been my characterization of these comments.

You're entirely right. Debbie didn't bash omnivores, nor did you, honestly. I was honestly just trying to explain why hackles are raised pre-emptively. Is it right? Nah, I doubt it, it's prejudging. Is it a conditioned response? Likely.

Hah, noob!
Yes, never become an extremist. You've seen what extremism did to hair in the 80s!

It is a defense mechanism, one of defiance. I concur that a good number of vegetarians (more often vegans) are difficult, intransigent and wholly self-righteous. From the experiences you describe, it is understandable for you to have that opinion. However, in my travels, the mention of my vegetarianism welcomes comments, some confrontational.
