ok, now what
uninstalled aol, ran registry clean up, modified just about everything everyone told me to do and IE STILL wont open images like gifs and jpgs. wont even run some java stuff. im at my wits end.

ok, i changed my settings over to what you reccomended using cablenut, now everything is faster and IE still wont open images and still is the slowest of the bunch. does anybody know why IE wont open the images?

ok guys, just uninstalled aol and guess what. no change! Now its obvious that this is an IE problem. I went into my registry and uninstalled IE and then reinstalled it from the website.
