Untangle...this one is fantastic...I've built a few...using them in production...very powerful. Lots of features...even blocking of IM traffic and peer to peer traffic.

I'm not sure why you're adding (router)..
Windows Servers are used to share applications, files, printers, perform infrastructure roles (active directory, dns, dhcp, etc). I never use them as a router though..I don't want important servers exposed to the internet.

To me, it's 2x different things ...

I will like to know the actual difference between them and why some people prefer windows server to linux server (router) and vice versa.
please as a junior network administrator, i will like to know the difference in their performance and why admins prefer some to the other.

also, in place of ping, try tracert and/or pathping to determine more clearly where the latency jumps. the latency to your DNS is obviously very high. tracert and pathping gives much more information about the latency at each hop between you and the target..
