Google to build three new underwater cables in 2019

Google has announced plans to build three new underwater fiber-optic cables lining ocean areas from the Pacific to the North Sea, extending its private data network to regions competitors haven't touched with similar projects.
The subsea cables include: Curie, a private cable connecting Chile to Los Angeles; Havfrue, a consortium cable connecting the United States to Denmark and Ireland; and Hong Kong-Guam Cable system, a consortium cable interconnecting major subsea communication hubs in Asia.
Google parent Alphabet Inc. owns a massive network of fiber-optic cables and data centers built up over the past decade. Ben Treynor Sloss, vice president of Google's cloud platform said the infrastructure already adds up to the world's biggest private network, handling roughly 25% of the world's internet traffic, and helps Google control its data-intensive software without relying on telecom companies.
Building all of these cables will help Google deliver cloud services with a better experience. It means if servers in one region have a problem, then it can still service customers in those areas without taking a hit to performance.
