Comcast restores phone service after major nationwide outage2016-07-13 18:13 by Daniela
Comcast Business phone service suffered a nationwide outage on Tuesday, which affected small to medium businesses. The issue was caused by a power failure at a data center and brought down the service for nearly 950,000 customers.
Inbound and outbound calls were either not being completed at all, or were met with a recording saying the number is no longer in service.
"Early today, an issue in our network prevented some of our small business customers from making and receiving phone calls," according to a statement from the company. "We apologize for the inconvenience and we're working as quickly as possible to understand the root cause and get it resolved."
"We do know there were about 950,000 (customers) impacted nationwide," said Leslie Oliver, a Comcast spokeswoman for the Colorado region. "It was Comcast Business Voice. Our internet, wireless and video customers were all safe."
Among the affected cities were Portland, Seattle, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, and the District of Columbia. The company says the issues are now fixed.
