trying to set up my new comp and run into a problem getting my two cd drives on sec channel to post.
Specs:
ASUS P4S8X
P4 2.4
WD SE HD (on pri channel)
TDK 16 x CD-RW + DVD 16x (on sec. channel)
512 Corsair PC3200
etc. etc.
They post on the primary but won't do it when in the exact same setup on the sec channel.
So is it broken?
-A sad and sick IH

I know this may sound funny and other people may not agree but I have had CDRW that would not post on anything but the master.
or
Check the ribbon.
or
Make sure you have the jumpers set correctly
*And when you say they don't post do you mean in windows or your bios.
If that all doesn't work try removing the bus controller and the secondary drive and reinstall it.

By post I mean in bios, can't even install windows until I get the cd drive's working.
I am pretty sure that the ribbon and jumper settings are fine, they work on the pri. channel.
I have tried every master/slave, slave/master combo so I dont tihnk thats it either.
What'cha mean by removing the bus controller?
Thanks for the quick reply.
P.S. I think my CD-RW also requires to be in the master.

Nevermind about the controller that would be in your OS I thought you had one installed.
Can you try another ribbon? And you did try making the cdrw the master and the dvd the slave on the secondary channel?
In your bios is everything set to auto?

The ribbon works on primary but not on sec so I don't think that is the problem. Yup I tried setting the CD-RW as master.
Just checked the BIOS and everything is on auto.
BTW both drives are getting power.
I think it may just be a bad board. ANyone else ever hear of this happening?

Yea I have had a bad channel before that sounds like what it may be. I would try everything though. I would even try setting the bios to Load default settings try that.
Look at the secondary ide channel on the mobo are the pins bent or is any missing?

Pins seem to be fine.
I requested an RMA from NewEgg.

Really really wanted to get my comp running this week.
Thanks for all the help Cameron, owe you one.

I would go through your BIOS options and see if the front USB ports are even enabled. Fail-Safe defaults disable them.
Worst comes to worst, give me a call and I might have some hardware for you.
