hello and greets to the group
I understand that it is possible to, using a cable modem, have your set up/account via tcp/ip set up and not have to use "tons of extra cable software". I was wondering if the same was true of PowerLink from adelphia. can you set up your acct without using adelphia's software?
thanks in advance

I have an adelphia powerlink account and
all the techs did to setup my account was
to plug in the modem and renew the ip in ipconfig. But that's because they use DHCP. If you know how to setup a static IP it will work

Hi...
When I got Adelphia two years ago, there was no software. And when I set up 2 other computers, I never used any software (except for the speed tweaks). I just simply configured my Network Neighborhood settings and I was off and running.
The software Adelphia provides is probably just "utility" stuff... like their E-Support Assistant (whic sux). It also preconfigures your TCP/IP settings, email settings (username and SMTP/POP3 servers), and browser settings (proxy and connectivity settings). I also think their software installs all the most common tweaks (at least it did this on my dad's computer).
Basically, you do not need Adelphia's software. Everything can be manually configured fairly easily.

just wanted to say thank you to all for all your help
what a great group this is.
it is a good thing to be armed with information, as opposed to letting the "tech guys" call all th shots.
thanks again
