Need some clarafication.

Ok guys I have been doing reading on various speeds DLS, Cable ect.. I am so confused with the conversion methods I see
Mbps, then I see mbps, then I see Khz
khz.. were can I go see what all these mean and or were can i find the equation to figure all this out.. so I know how to simply do it myself..
