I was wondering if there was a tweak for this....when I am on the internet i surf with no problem but then all of a sudden my surfing comes to a halt and sits for about a minute while it is loading the next web page. I have dsl and i did a few tweaks already but i wanted to know if there was specific tweak to cut the loading time down so that i can surf web pages one after another without stoping at a certain point. I have Windows 98SE and Internet Explorer 6 ........Any help would be appreciated!!

I dont think there is a tweak for that. The same thing used to happen to me when I had Windows Millennium.. IE would stop loading stuff for a few moments, then continue loading. I have no idea why, but it doesnt seem to happen now that I have XP.

with 98 you might want to try running ie 5.5 instead I was told that 6.0 was made for iwndows me and xp. 5.5 was basicly 98 and win2k.. I heard that 5.5 was faster for those to os's at the same time if ur happy with 6 keep it on.

Rage313:

Internet Explorer 6.0 works just fine on all the Windows 98SE computers that I have worked on.

You might try the following tweak:

Go into the Registry(Start - Run - REGEDIT - OK) and follow this path by clicking the +:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - System - CurrentControlSet - Services - VxD - MSTCP.

Click directly on ServiceProvider to expose its entries.

Highlight the below keys(one at a time), then click Edit - Modify.

LocalPriority
HostsPriority
DnsPriority
NetbtPriority
Class

Change their value to 01 00 00 00, then click OK.

Close the Registry, then reboot for the change to take effect.

I tried the tweak that you suggested captain and i am still having the problem...i don't understand it....it is like i get on the net...surf for a about 9 web pages...then it comes to a halt and hangs for like a minute....at first i thought it might have had somethin to do with the hosts file so i tried that and still nothin. If u have any other suggestion...let me know...but thanks for the link to Franks 98 tips...that helped alot!!!

Do you have this Reg file installed Also what Windows are you running?(from 911)
Quick Tip -- Faster Internet Connections in Win9x & Win2K!
Those of us fortunate enough to have fast internet connections (cable modem, DSL, etc.), the following registry tweak allows more concurrent HTTP connections while downloading a web page. Each item on a web page requires a separate HTTP "Get", so if your connection can handle more concurrent connections, you can "Get" more items downloading at once. This is what to do:

Create a new plain text file and call it Tweak.reg.
Highlight the text below and press CTRL+C to copy it:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000028(40)
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:000000014(20)

Paste it into your new text file by pressing CTRL+V.
Note: If you prefer not to create the file yourself, feel free to download Tweak.zip, and unzip it to a temporary directory. When you're done, you may delete the REG file.
If you decide to make your own, make sure everything one the line that starts with "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER....\Internet Settings]" is on one line. Also make sure that there are no blank trailing spaces, and that there is one carriage return after the last character in the text you paste.
Right click on the file. From the context menu choose Merge. Wait a few moments. Remember to delete the REG file when you're done.

Rage313:

Get Cablenut 4.08 installed. You can then use the adjuster window to make numerous tweaks to your connection WITHOUT having to go into the registry.
