ok just done a reformatt i have w98 se on my pc, but my speeds are very slow??

heres the analizer resalts

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65535
Note: Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 49 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

done 7 tests on .dslreports.com/speedtests as this is the highest ??

2002-08-21 19:17:21 EST: 431 / 247
Your download speed : 431627 bps, or 431 kbps.
A 52.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 247831 bps, or 247 kbps.

im on a 1 mb connection

my specs are as follows

athlon 1200 mhz

386 ram

w98 se

Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix.

http://www.speedguide.net/files/vtcp386/236926USA8.EXE

Just so it shows us what Rwin you have etc.

Also may I ask what ISP you have? Just out of interest.

If you're not sure how to download and apply the VTCP.386 file(version 4.10.2223), let me know and I'll E-mail you a copy and tell you how to install it - which is easy to do. You'll need it with Windows 98SE.

cyberdude download the TCPOptimizer and try the following settings:

Settings tab:

select - cable modem
check - custom settings
network adapter selection - your NIC
check modify all adapters
maxmtu - 1500
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 32120
MTU Discovery - yes
Black Hole Detect - no
Selective Acks - yes
Max Dup ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options - uncheck both boxes*
(* if using TCP Receive Window of 65535 or higher check windows scaling)

Other Settings tab:

Max Connections per Server - 8
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 10
Lan Browsing Speedup - optimized

Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect.

Also make sure you download and install the patch that everyone above recommended. :) :D

If downloading is the problem, then try DAP, Download accelerator, no matter if you use phone line, or cable, it will still speed up downloads. It connects to your host 4 times for the single downloading file. I downloaded 5 mb in 1 sec. but I also had the registerd version too. http://webservices.cnet.com/bandwidth
