my ISP is through ameritech...
when i ping em' through run, command i get 75%-100% loss
ping http://www.speedguide.com = 0% loss
ping http://www.ameritech.com = 100%loss
how can i fix this, or is this a problem through my ISP??

Try pinging your mail server or your default gateway, or DNS server and see what you get

When you ping your ISP, is it the only place that you're getting 100% packet loss?

err... the site is reporting 100% losses because their server does not allow pings.

Try pinging http://www.optonline.com instead

In dos, you would type "Ping http://www.optonline.com -l 1460 -n 20" minus the quotes, ofcourse.

is the only site that i basically get 100% loss
everywhere else i get 0% loss
once in a great while i might 75% loss from ameritech but still thats not good

do you think just because their website sucks, that makes my ISP suck?

is that a problem that their server doesn't allow ping's?

i tried pinging [url]http://www.optonline.com,[/url] and got 0% loss

ameritech advertised 768 kbps / 128 kbps
and i'm only getting about 325 kbps / 109 kbps
same for the other computers
thats terrible

i have a linksys router connected to 3 other computers, is that going to affect my speed not to increase at all?

my dad contacted my ISP and they told him that we're really only going to get about 380 kbps down max and 128 kbps up max. what should i ask them to do to change the things i want?
tell them the situation about the pinging..err what?

any advise, i'd appriciate

go to command prompt by clicking start>run>cmd hit enter...
/type ping ameritech.net
looks like this c:\Windows>ping ameritech.net

note that this may still show loss but you can try it a few times..

its ameritech.net not ameritech.com

I would change ISP's if that is all the speed you can get

i got 0% loss, i guess i was confused about how ameritech's site is [url]http://www.ameritech.com,[/url] but the service is ameritech.net.
so does that make my ISP ok then?

i've done basically everything that i can think of to try to tweak mt crap...i dont know what else to do

How many speed patches do you have installed and did you uninstall old ones before you tried another

the only things i downloaded onto this computer is TCP Optimizer, DrTCP (but then deleted) and also downloaded sguide_tweak_2k (and installed).
then from there i changed settings etc but still no dofference.
i also downloaded sguide_webtweak_2k(but didn't install because i'm hesitant about it and dont know how to make a back up for my registry)

Backing up registry in XP does no good , it's not like 9x systems, you need to create restore point and then turn system restore off, see help thread below for how

If your not on PPPoE MTU should be 1500, select custom settings on Optimizer, enter 1 at a time these numbers and take a speedtest in help thread below, 51100 or 64240, select fastest number, don't forget to apply changes in Optimizer

also when i change the MTU to 1500, it won't change when i do the tweak test..this is the last change i did just 2 seconds ago

Have you called ISP to see if you are on PPPoE, try 31944 or 63888 in Tcp Recieve Window

51100 and 64240 are for MTU of 1500 not 1492 PPPoE

nope i havent called, where do you get all these numbers from?

when ever i try to chenge the MTU from 1492 to 1500, after i reboot, i check my test results and its still set at 1492, my MTU wont's change, funkdat
