Lately I've been noticing a slowdown in service in my area, around 8-11pm. Ping skyrocket to 100-200ms and my downloads hover at 50kb/s.
Should I call and complain? Or would it be useless to try?
I'm really sad that my prime internet gaming time is shot down.

I've noticed a persistent slowdown with my cable provider, Charter. In my case, it is not only at night, but insted, all day long. I too don't know if I should complain to Charter.

Calling ComTrash customer service is pretty much a waste of time. I had problems with their service and even talked to a tier 2 tech. After explaining that I tracked the problem to a Router in their system their so called Tech told me it was impossible for me to trace my connection. It was obvious that Comcast only employ real Network techs for Tier 3. All I can say is Good luck.

I guess I am just like every other(most) of Comtrash customer.
Theirs Tech support suck.... any 2nd?
I have a Comcast Cable service at my house. No Cable TV
though, didn’t need one I am using DirecTV. The hook up is a simple hook up as it can be one PC and Surfboard Modem. I just installed the cable last week. The top speed was 1.3 Mbps (only a few times since I have the service)and the lowest speed that I have seen was 158Kbps. My everyday average is about 300-650Kbps. Should I be worry? Or should I except the fact that in the evening people come home and shower at the same time?? My friend in the next city (I am in Germantown, MD and he is in Gaithersburg, MD) even during the rush hour he still get his up around 1Mbps no less. What should I do or what should I ask Comcast to do for me? I paid for the service as much as my friend in the next city did.
Now, I would like the input from you guys out there that have Comcast cable service. What speed are you guys getting out there??
Here is the website I normally use for my speed test.

Thanks,

I am one of the lucky ones. My speeds are pretty consistent at 179 Kb down/121 up. The problem is the connection will randomly cut out and I have reset the modem every few weeks.
Speakeasy isn't very accurate to really judge speed. I use a OOL ftp server.
Here is the link.

Well, soon Comcast and AT&T will be married.. So, ummmm what's next...???
Some Tech are really stupid and they try to talk to you like you know nothing. I have a cell phone service with AT&T, one time (Few times) I called and talk to them tech complaining about droped call and my voice messages always late. ie: someone left you a messages around 6:30pm and you will not getting the notify until 10pm... Anyway, them tech try to ask me what kind of signal and bah-bah.... talk to me like I know nothing... Finally, I told that tech support.. "Son, of all the cellular equipment that AT&T have - I am the one who designed 1/2 of the hardware, so don't tell me how the cellular network work"
Hehehehe, shut him up really fast....
Anyway, if you called them tech support and you are not happy about him/her - I always hang up and call again.. Hopefully to get the different one.

179kb down/121 up? 179Kilo-bits-per-sec or 179kilo-byte-per-sec?
If that is 179KByte/sec from Comcast Cable mode you are in luck.. If it was 179K-bits then welcome to the ComTrash club.
If you are really getting that kind of speed, where do you live? Can I move in to your house.. I promise, I'll be good.

Boy would I be in trouble if my connection was 179 kilo-bits!!!
Since I have a 1500/128 cap I do feel lucky to regularly see 179Kb(bytes). I believe 186 is max for the 1500 cap.
Some Comcast customers are reporting that their Cap was raised to 1800. Anybody in NJ have the new cap?
