I've got an IBM Thinkpad T20 laptop with the following:
WIN 95
empty PCMCIA slot
USB

I'd like to attach an external hard disk to backup the laptop internal 12 GIG disk.

1) Is it possible to bootup from the external disk if the internal fails? How is it done?
2) Any recommendations for an external disk to use? I've noticed most require at least WIN 98.

not possible to boot to estarnal devices UNLESS you use a boot disk that enables the driver for the USB or Firewire and then you can boot to the external Disk, is you use USB 1.1 its going to be slow, USB2.0 and fireWire would make it a lot faster

PS: about the boot disk i dont know if it exist or not i just think that that would be the only way to do it.

i don't believe so, not from 95. the laptop has to support boot from usb (boot from usb device is a bios feature..)
