Hey I am planning to purchase a new videocard very soon, and I want to know which is the better video card for the money.

nVidia Geforce 3 Ti 500 64 MB DDR

VS.

ATI Radeon 8500 64 MB DDR

Please post your oppinions on which video card you believe is better based on speed, quality, and overall performance.

Note: Their is a sale at a local computer store In my location, where the price of the nVida Geforce 3 Ti 500 is less than the ATI Radeon 8500.

ATI Radeon 8500 64 MB DDR (OEM): $248.95 (Canadian)
nVidia Geforce 3 Ti 500 64 MB DDR (Retail): $239.95 (Canadian)

Kinda repeated your thread from above. Same answer here, take a look at Anandtech for some benchmarks.

I have many of both cards, I'm able to get hands on with a lot of hardware. I'll give ATI a nod for really improving over the past two years, but nVidia products consistantly don't disappoint, very compatible with games, and a simply unbelievable driver release programs....no other vid card maker can touch with for driver updates, with each update bringing along further performance boosts, and compatibility.

ATI has the edge for video editing enthusiasts...although that edge has dimished, as every card maker and chipset now has easy to use products for that. ATI used to pretty much be the only one there with their all in wonders, etc..but no more.

ATI has some edge of video quality, although on properly setup units to compare, it's not much. They also usually have some drivers glitches in many games, causing anomalies, etc. I'd rather have 1% less image quality with nVidia, and better performance and compatiblity.

Price....well, as with everything, ya get what ya pay for.

Wouldn't it be prudent for him to get the 8500 retail version? He has the OEM listed...

I am curious though...instead of buying an old generation GF3, which not an entry level GF4 ti4200? Not really a price difference, and if you look at the benchmarks in my above link....you get quite the performance boost.

Ive seen alot of benchmarks showing the Geforce 3 Ti 500 on top, actually I was gonna get a G3Ti500 first, but because of the price I was considering a ATI Radeon 8500 64 MB DDR, but now with the price drop of the G3Ti500 which costs less than the ATI Radeon 8500 64 MB DDR on sale Im not sure anymore.

What would perform better do you think?
