Help......Me

I'm writing this message through tears at my work. I'm crying because my computer is screwed up. Here's what happened.

I decided to get the SUPPORTED Nvidia drivers off their site. I didn't get some of these "unofficial" drivers that float around. I got the 28.32 drivers. So I go to Add/Remove Programs and take off the old drivers and then I come back and I install these. After it gets done it tells me to restart. So I do. Now when I come back it gets to the Windows 98 loading screen and then it just hangs there. Now the strange thing is that I still here the processor cranking away and if I right click I can actually hear the desktop menu come up in the background. It's like I have loaded all the way to the desktop but all I see on the screen is the Windows 98 loading screen. And somehow the computer is not seeing my CD-ROM drive at all anymore, cause I was going to try to reinstall Windows 98. So i'm pretty much screwed here and could use some help. There's a lot of stuff on my computer that I don't want to lose, so i'm not about to FDISK.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Use the drivers that worked.

There's always Dos mode:

scanreg /restore

Pick an old registry and good luck :)

Thanks

Thanks. Restarting in Safe Mode and uninstalling the new drivers and reinstalling the old drivers worked. I still don't have the new drivers though. Back at 23.11 drivers.

Now I got another problem though. I popped in my Gateway System Restoration CD at one point and now everytime I start up my computer it asks that I put in my system restoration CD and press F1 to restart or press F10 to exit to DOS. When I put disk in and press F1 it just brings up my system restoration CD options such as Install Windows 98 or Scan Hard Drive for Viruses and so I go to Exit and then it just restarts my computer and if I take the disk out it will come up asking for disk again. So i've just gone around in a circle. Now if I press F10 instead Windows loads up and i'm fine. But I don't want this to come up and have to press F10 for the rest of my life everytime I turn on my computer.

I have no idea what to do.

To answer your question about not being prompted to hit f1 or f10 you may need to edit your boot.ini file I'm not 100% sure Norm would know that the best. As far as the Nvidia drivers go you don't need to uninstall the old ones prior to installing the new, just download the new and turn off your AV app and double click the install command and it will do the rest. :) ;)

Sorry, never seen a Gateway, and don't know how thier restore CD works.

Just suggestions.....

Try hitting F10 and exit to Dos, then type: win
and hit enter. Maybe that'll remove the pointer to the restore CD.

Might be the boot.ini, worth a try. As well as autoexec.bat, config.sys or msdos.sys

Thanks
