My new computer is a Gateway 1.6Ghz P-4, 256 MB DDR RAM, 32 MB Nvidea Video Card, 40 Gig 7200 rpm hard drive and a 17" flat panel display. My old puter is a Compaq K6-2 @ 300 something 128 md sdram and a 10 gig hard drive. Now, my question. Can I reformat the hard drive in the old puter and pull it out, put it in my new puter and have it as another drive. Like say Drive E or something? How would I do it? What settings would I use? I just wanna use it for extra storage, not for a dual os boot. I wanna like use it to store movies or porn or something..LOL... Also, is there anything I can do with all the other stuff from inside my old puter? Any help would be greatly apprecitated.

plug it in as secondary master or primary slave, your priority.
Check jumpers telling th e drive 2 be master or slave!
Power up and if no auto detection is default, goto bios and detect it!
Then boot et voila there we go Label it e.g. e: or x: (for porn

)
and format / use it!!!
*BIG DEAL*

Ok, this brought up new questions. Do I need to format the drive before I take it outta my old puter?

You should wipe it totally clean, including removing it's active partition.....rebuild it in disk manager.

You can do it a few ways...your motherboard has the capabilities of handling 4 hard drives. I would install the hard drive on the seconde ide as master or connect it to the first hard drive as a slave unit. on the back of the hard drive it will show you the way of setting master/slave configurations.
After you boot up, you PnP will detect the hard drive, foramt it, and youre up and running.
