My next purchase is not going to be computers, oh no

I'm gonna get some nice sound in my car

Basically I'm going to start with Speakers first, I have two under the dashboard, two tweeters on the top of the door, they are really small, and two speakers in the back.

I need to know what is the best speaker brand for car audio. Then I need to know what size speakers I can put in my 1993 Celica GT, i.e. what size will they hold in inches to fit the screw pattern.

I was looking at the Xplod Speakers from Sony: http://www.xplodsony.com/home/default.asp

http://www.xplodsony.com/products/?CATEGORY=Speakers

they look VERY kick ass

thoughts?

Your going to get a half dozen answers as to what's the best speaker.

I don't like the Sony's. If you're going for subs, then I would get JL Audio or Kicker's. Just a component system (which can be very nice), I'd get Infinity.

I like Infinity speakers the best, but they are so damn expensive.

the best speaker is really relative man. for every brand of speaker, there's a different opinion, and different price range.

AS far as what will fit in your car, if you want to continue to use your stock locations, just buy the same size aftermarket speakers.

http://www.sounddomain.com check that out...they have excellent brands and prices. Plus their forums are full of information.

http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/index.html I'd highly recommend to you to scope their site out...the tutorials section is full of information

that's really all the advice i can give you...those two sites above will provide you with useful information better than i can explain. :D

Now now now.. lets just take a f@kin breather here..
Okay.. in my rig I've got 2 "PPI" amps powering 4 MTX T-8000 12 in' woofers in a constum built box.. I have sony explodes 4-way 6 x 9's on the box enclosed in its own sections.. and two Infinity 4 x 6's in the door ... but they are powered by a PIONEER amplifier.. As a deck I purchased an aftermarket single din Sony Exploid Cd reciever... flawless. ... Oh My system total cost is around 3500 US Dollars. Insurance on everything for two years. I thought why not go to compete in a competition so I added two more batteries and Two Farad caps. Total Bridged power 1400 Watts RMS as you know Presicision Audio only uses RMS watts to rate there amps.
The first time I competed in db racing I took 8th place 139.6
the second time I competed in db racing I took 5th place 146.1
Well the next time I compete in db racing I am going to stand outside of my car and remote it to go on green.
The conclusion to this story is .. go on your first instinct when it comes to buying stereo equiptment for your car and then you will find reasons to get better ideas from your friends.

take your car to a shop and have them build it for you. Or go with Pioneer

I've heard alot, and Infinity car speakers are in a different class, sure they cost as much as gold bullion, but damn if they don't sound good. You gonna get a head unit? Get one with somewhere around 22-25 watts per channel(rms) and you can drive 4 mids/tweats okay, then look for a 8-10" self powered bass tube/box and yer rockin. Thats what I did, coulda really gone overboard and spent thousands, but kept it low and it still sounds great.

My friends dad owns a place that sells them. They rule! Basically all X-plod stuff are good, but just expensive :(

I've had great luck with my Polk Audio speakers, subs, 6x9, tweets, all of em. I also have 2 Hifonics Hercules amps. Previously had a Soundstream Reference 705 but I blew three channels in it, stay away from Soundstream.

Well, I went to best buy today and bought some

impulse buying :(

My car accepts 4" in the front and 5.25" in the back

I got Cerwin Vega, they were on sale at best buy for a good price

The two front speakers: http://www.cerwinvega.com/products/mobi ... ag402.html

The two back speakers: http://www.cerwinvega.com/products/mobi ... ag502.html

Now these are good starters, cause they can take a lot of thumping and power. See down the road I plan to get a new Deck and then eventually an Amp and Sub maybe.... sooooooo when i do upgrade to all that these speakers will take the pounding

I paid $80 for the 2 front ones and $140 for the two rear ones

When I used to do custom sound we had a saying for Bose,

No Highs
No Lows
Must Be Bose.

I never really cared for Bose sound, but to each his own.

I worked on Audio for many years and theres no better speaker than the Bose 901. Car audio is equally as well

We too had a saying...Youv'e Blown the rest now try the best...Bose :D

You guys remember tha old "Supertuner" two knobs and no cassete player nor 8 track player.. just FM/AM?

Well you know I'm still seeing them off and on in many classic cars.. I'm suprised that they still work..
Even though there is many good brand names out there.. you will find that there is just so many...
but My expert advice is Never buy speakers unless you can hear them ... I mean not always will you find Quality Sound in every speaker.. but I do have to agree that when it comes to the technology in speakers BOSE has the money and gets the money for there efforts. More easily said if you want more for your money by you stuff off of the streets. Its much cheaper... I'm serious. I've purchased Crunch crossovers 3 dollars. Alpine 600 watt max Amplifiers 27 dollars and a 2 litre of Mountain Dew. Take your time. You will find deals on things you really want. If you have the money and the drive to get the best and hear the best .. I have to agree with RAINBOW.. BOSE is the best..
I'm not kidding.
I don't use BOSE because I only want to compete in db racing. I just know its gonna cost a mint to get 1 in' glass for my windshield..
It's really your choice when it comes to speakers..and car audio equiptment.. in reality if your good at anything at all you better make sure you have no excuses in the end.
Good Luck.

Well, I have to disagree with y'all. Bose is simply not the best. I started doing car audio around 1980, and have done many custom sound systems. Way more than I can count. I did custom sound and reparied tv and audio equipment for almost 13 years. I'm also a licensed Radio and Television tech in Louisiana.

One system we built was over 15,000 watts RMS and was only beat by Fosgate and Orion. At the time it was the 3rd loudest car stereo in the world. In fact my old boss now works for Orion, which has been bought by PPI I believe.

I know car and home audio better than most people. I tend to stay out of these discussions because someone will always say Sony or Bose or some other name brand is best, and will go to great lenghts to prove you otherwise.

If you really want to hear some real high end car speakers, listen to Focal speakers, their sound is simply amazing. They also build some of the best passive crossovers on the market.

I'll tell you this, I'm far from some jack-leg internet newbie when it comes to sound. I still do some custom sound in home and car for friends here and there. :)

As do I. To each their own I suppose. What sounds good to one may not sound good to another. I have been in stereo and audio on and off for 18 plus years. I still install many indoor and outdoor pa systems, car stereos, car alarms, and spec a lot of sound systems for school auditoriums. Theres a lot of factors involved not just how "loud" it can go. Myself I dont care for the "boom boom" lows. Its all in personal preference I suppose. Different types of sounds for different situations.

Rainbow,
Then you know exactly what I'm getting at, there simply is not a "best car speaker" to buy. After a while I just got tired of telling people to listen to speakers and buy the best that you can afford.

Plus what sounds good in the demo room at your local audio place, might sound like crap in you car, due to different acoustics.

Roundeye.. relax for a moment.. your rpms are redlining..
Dr. Amar Bose is going to hunt you down and give you a lecture about excellence.

You know I don't really care if I'm wrong when I say that bose is the best..
I'm not saying your wrong when you say bose is simply not the best..
The fact matters here should we just tell "Brent" to get the best for him. Rather than manipulate his decision. Lets Make sure he makes a wise choice based on his needs..

Yeah thats sounds sappy. read it a few times.
Focal has nice sound too.
Clarion makes nice sound speakers too..as does Orion.
I'd recommend results based on a POLL would show a popularity test. Lets be smart and tell Brent to stick to his insticts and not listen to people like us who have been around Car Audio Equiptment and every step of the way in the changes with Audio before we could drive, and still with it today.

AOL os the most popular ISP, does that make them the best?

Sorry if I came across like a prick, didn't mean to seem that way. I guess it still gets under my skin, after all these years, when somebody tries to say which speaker is best. It's all very subjective.

Not a prick at all Roundeye I respect your opinion as well. Yes you are 100% correct...have them listen to the speakers and buy the best they can afford. Just because I like Bose does not make them the best. The "Best" is? I dont know....depends on the application. Heck some people swear by sparkomatic speakers

And WHAT isnt AOL the "Best"? :rotfl:

RIGHTLY SAID.. "you can prick your finger, but can't finger your prick." Quote from George Carlin.

I'm not pointing fingers at you.. but you should know that I wrote that last post for everyone to read too.

After all I have been so ready for lunch for the past two hours..

Brent, buy something and tell us what you have... We'll tell you how to optimize it and tweak it.
