XP & Firewalls chokes cable connections

Is there any firewall that doesnt knock 800-1000 kbps off connection speed? I tried Sygate,Tiny and Zone alarm but fastest connection is still reached with the XP built-in firewall which I dont trust, I believe it's a peep hole for M$ to snoop with.
Typically I get 200-350 kbps with the above freeware/shareware programs and 1000kbps with the built-in XP firewall and 1.6mbps with no firewall. (gee, I thought ATTBI was capped @ 1.5mbps) I'm using 2 pc's through a NetworksEverywhere hub and a RCA cable modem.

actually the XP firewall is one of the best ones out there. Techtv tested it, and they highly recommend using it.

most internet users really don't need a firewall. The only people who would need is people running servers, people in irc chats, and people on direct connect. If you just download stuff and go to web sites you really don't need a firewall. Just do weekly scans for viruses and trojans and you'll be fine. Also your right about the xp firewall being a snoop hole, but not for microsoft. You can iether get fast speeds and paranoid about security, or you can have peace of mind but slow speeds. Your choice.

WOW!
That is a huge speed decrease just from using a firewall. I have tried half a dozen different firewalls and have never experienced a speed change with them enabled or disabled.
No ideas why that is happening....anyone?

I have never heard of this. I have used ZA for quite some time now over three OS's and have NEVER had it slow my system down one bit. You must something else going on bETAbILLY. You might want to check your services and see if something's being a hog while you're downloading.
Good luck.

Is your computer worth getting into? If not then disable all your firewalls and risk it. As long as your not sheepish about reformatting your system and keep your os updated.

If you are worried about security and are running two machines then why not get a router such as a netgear or linksys and not pay for the second ip plus have great security...just a passing thought...
