Laptops vs. Desktops

Are laptops slower in general than desktop pcs with the same hardware? Is it because of the LCD screen? Just wondering cuz I have both with the same cpu and ram, but the laptop seems much slower than the desktop.

Yes, things generally run a bit slower, components aren't pushed as hard, they have energy conservation to worry about, and heat considerations. Overall, the design of all components, from the CPU, to the motherboard, to the HD, etc etc, reflects this.

If you use the same hardware that's in your laptop and you make a desktop computer, you'd end up with a laptop. The components are specially built smaller in the laptop....
Sorry for not really answering your question but it's just to let you know that it's not the same hardware...

I meant the same cpu speed and amount of ram. They are different hardware.

sutimes the CPU is diffrent, and the ram is diffrent, dont really know if they are slower, but they are there for energy conservation and less heat givien off..

Ya, so how can you match them up against each other, one will obivously be faster than the other.....
and in this case, the bigger the better...

There is no comparison , the hardware is totaly diferent , the hard drives is diferent too .
But keep in mind that also responsible about the general speed of every laptop , is the software and the drivers and the generall support of the manufactore .

i have a laptop and its faster than my desktop look at my signature and you can see the specifications

Laptops usually have slower spinning hard drives
like 5400 and sometimes lower
Now im not sure about top of the line notebooks, but I don't think i've ever seen one with a 7200rpm drive, the drives are micro drives and very small, and i dont think they can spin that fast yet
so hard drive speed is one thing that makes laptops slower then desktops
as the other people said here the way the thing is designed from the ground up is designed for less heat and smallness and less power usage, therefore sometimes speed is sacraficed....
