How much loss?

In your opinion\facts how much do you think a router slows down a connection\ packetloss etc etc? Including soho\super fast routers,just curious to what people think on here.

When I ran a Linksys for a while at the house, added around 15 ms to my UT ping compared to my computer plugged in naked to the modem. NetGear...between 5 and 10. Netopia, pretty much 5 - 10 (but that router could let lots of people play through it without any increase...was incredible). Nexland seems a hair quicker than the Netopia, but haven't tested under heavy loads yet.
You comparing to software ICS? Or just a single computer, either through router, or plugged in direct?

A router could introduce anywhere from > 1ms to several seconds if it's *really bad*. This is all very relative though to the router. Several things that would affect latency on a router would be....
packets per second capability
memory util
processor util
current load
processing level (meaning, how in depth does it have to look at a packet? If it's a core ISP switch then it only looks at L2 headers. Most edge routers will look at L3 IP header. This also takes into account some processor intensive things like NAT, access-lists, and policy routing)
Just a thought...

I dont think it effected me at all. why you say? Before i got my router, i had to run a software firewall. this slowed the comptuer down while playing games, which increased ping time.
now with my router.. no software firewall needed, which actually IMPROVED my game play
