I have noticed that some people are having problems with WIN XP with high speed internet.(Especially AT&T Internet)

Some people have to probelms with what it seems to be a DNS issue. They can't browse the internet after awhile and have to "repair" or reboot the machines to continue browsing.

Try this:

Open the CONTROL PANEL and go to ADMINISTRATION TOOLS. Open the COMPUTER MANAGEMENT and click the SERVICES and APPLICATION's "+" sign to expand the column. You should see SERVICES listed under that column. On the right side of the window look for DNS CLIENT. Double click DNS CLIENT and change the STARTUP TYPE to MANUAL. Change the SERVICE STATUS to STOP.

This worked for me. I no longer have internittent browsing problems.

The only thing is... you have to do it again if you shutdown or reboot.

If you APPLY the settings they should be permanent. You shouldn't have to go annd set that again. Mine stayed to MANUAL and is STOPPED.

Hey, thanks for that XP fix. It worked for all of my friends running XP, even when rebooting. I wonder if the other guy remembered to switch the service to manual?

FYI...the same fix will also work for NT and 2000. The real fix involves the repair of the DNS servers but this will certainly make all of our internet time a little more bearable.

It seemed to have worked for me as well.

Yea, it worked for me too.. But ain't it crazy whenever it pops up again with error and kept clicking to restart the DHCP over and over, eh?

At least, it was worth to give it a try though!

I have AT&T broadband =0(
All i did was type in ipconfig /all in the comand prompt and took the dns numbers, opened the TCP/IP options and checked the Use the following DNS server address and typed the DNS numbers in and ive not had a problems since. I even did it on my other computer that is on the internet using ICS, Its been working fine ever since too.. But with out doing that id have to hit Repair every 5 or 10 min.. Im running Windows XP Pro that cost me $299 plus tax.. Im sure Bill loves my A$$.. hahaha

Still keep Obtain an IP address automatically checked.. Ive heard thay get pissed if you make you ip static.

what cowman said plus
open IE goto tools menu click on Internet options or just right click on the IE icon on the desktop and click on properties

Click on the security tab

Highlight local internet

Click on custom level

Scroll down to Active scripting

Disable it

scroll down to scripting for java applets

Disable it also

click ok and repete that yes and whatever and repete it on trusted sites and see what happens after you reboot

This was something that came up with speedguide over a year or so ago with IE5 and has fixed it almost everytime.
same rule applies with IE6ux
