when i was on excite@home i got around 400k down and now on att brodban i get like 72k

its really pissing me off......i got an email saying this

"Additionally, your AT&T Broadband Internet connection has been
optimized for all users through a maximum network setting of
1.5Mbps downstream. This speed setting is part of our
continuous effort to provide you with the fastest, most
consistent broadband service at the lowest possible price."

can anyone help

here are my analyzer results...

************************************
TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 114 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Welcome to the club. We're all in the same little slow boat. Hopefully things will change in a month or two.

use the xp speed patch its the same as the win2k one...to increase that rwin value since the value right now limits you to
321.2 KBytes/s @ 200ms
&
128.48 KBytes/s @ 500ms

It happened to me too

damn...before switching over my speed was like around 600 KB/s download. But now like ****... :(

I used to have my RWIN set to 513920 and worked great back then now..no use... :(

As far as Rwins are concerned I use Dr TCP to give me a range of Rwins for the new un-improved 1.5m and it doesnt seem to drop pages like it did when I was tweaked for a whopping 3.0 M

Don't forget DSL speeds suck depending on where you live I have Verizon DSL 1.5\128 and haven't seen 1.5 yet 1.2 occasionally

Test running.........
** Speed 820(down)/59(up) kbps **
(At least 16 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

and I might add 15 hops to anywhere, sometimes more

BTW don't think to yourself oh he's 1.5 mile outta town or somethin, I could throw a rock and hit the dslam from my back porch

The reason I won't cut them ANY slack is because how they have handled the whole situation. They have known for a long time it was coming and did NOTHING to prepare for it. Cox is my local provider, they are a multibillion dollar company and should have had everything set for a smooth transition. My access was out every day this week for hours, sometimes all night, I'm glad I'm not a business who depends on it or I would be losing my ass.

I agree

lots of ppl I know around my town having lots of problem with ATTBI network too since the switch. But I don't think DSL is any better, cuz I know some ppl and they said the same so I'll just have to hang with ATT for now and give them some times. If no improvements, then switch over to DSL, and hopefully by then it is improved... :)

Peace \/
