help to network XPpro to win98se

I did sucess networking COMP1 running XPpro (NTFS, 3com NIC) to COMP2 running 98se (FAT32, netgear 10/100 NIC) using a linksys 4 port router, both comp's internal IP is manually assign(DHCP disable), overall thru put is acceptable, 7.5MB/s, problem is everytime I click a folder or save something from comp1 to comp2, sometime takes up to 10 sec for the folder to start opening or the file to start saving.

It work fine before when comp 1 is running winME, but when I did a clean install XP, I can choose which protocol to use, but cannot bind netbeui for internal networking and TCP/IP for the internet, the binding option is not there. Don't know which protocol I am networking right now because the option is not there.

Comp 1 is my main comp and not sharing anything. Pic below

Comp 2 is an old Dell 133mhz which I install a second HD for use as a network HD for files and mp3 storage. I did enable NETBEUI on comp2 to bind with file and print sharing for internal networking and TCP/IP for the internet, both NIC is 100mb full dulplex.

Seems like the 2 comp are using a different protocol, but somehow network together, thanks for reading the long post.

This sounds familiar,,, except it was Win2000 and 98se I think,, I am pretty sure YeOldStoneCat was in the Thread, you could try searching his name to see if something pops up.

I will hopefully have my new Rig with XP this week, I will be putting it in my lan that has a ME rig and a 98se rig. So if nothing comes up for you by then I will see how I make out and repost.

CBR900RR,

any luck?

I just setup my new XP box last night,, didn't have much time but for starters my ME box sees the XP box and the TWO 98se boxes but the 98se boxes don't see XP and the XP box doesn't see the 98se boxes.

As far as XP to ME it is like the hard-drives are local to each other, very fast, appears to be little to no delay.

AND YES, isn't it a pain having to figure out where everything is.... totally different from 98se, ME & NT4.

Lucky I like change! ;)

Browseing on the file folder is fast except on the pic folder, about 450MB in size, maybe XP want to cashe all the pic in my folder for preview???? As far as the speed go, both comp are 100mb full dulplex and I am getting 1.96 megabyte or 15.68 megabit per second. Still searching for info to speed up my networking speed.
