Ethernet VS USB

I have a choice:
line--cablemodem---ethernetcard(10mbit ISA card)
or
line--cablemodem---USB port
Q: which will provide greater perfomance?

Go with the nic over the usb...usb drivers have a tendency to be a bit more flakey than regular nic drivers...

Too bad I'm limited to USB. I have a linksys 5-port Workgroup Hub and whenever I plug anything up to it, no activity lights come on. Seems only the uplink slot works (3rd hub, same result), so it has to be something wrong with settings.
