I have an Athlon 1Ghz and i want to upgrade it to a T-Bird 1.4Ghz. Can i just buy the T-Bird cpu and put it in my motherboard?

umm i have no idea. How do i check? I think its called ASUS. Shouldnt any AMD cpu fit?

yes, it will fit. However, if your mulitplier doesnt go high enough the full speed of the chip wont be supported. For example, my abit kt7a will not support the 1.4 until you apply a bios update. I just found out that it wont support the new XP processors, no big deal. I would wonder how much of a speed difference you'll see with a 1.4 tbird. I hope to be going from a 800 duron to a 1.4 TB, but you're making a much smaller jump.

I'd download SiSoft Sandra, and run their motherboard test, it should tell you what brand/model you have.

Ok im really confused. I just got this computer from a friend and i dont know much about computers. I dont know how fast it is. How do i find out how fast it is? Someone told me that its a T-Bird 1.4 Ghz but when i boot up my computer it says Athlon 1.05 GHz.

OK he told me that it was a T-Bird 1.4 Ghz but i think its only a Athlon 1.05 Ghz. In the Sandra program it says

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) Processor @ 1.05 Ghz

So it has to be a Athlon 1.05 Ghz right? No mistake? I think i got ripped off. What do they call the motherboard? A mainboard? If thats what they call it then i have an MSI MS-6380. Anybody know anything about this motherboard? Is it any good?

I'm using Sandra Pro, and it doenst give me much information about my Processor, so the only way you could find out, would be to actually take apart your computer....unless someone else knows of a program that will tell the proper Mhz rating.

you could always change the speed using the BIOS, if the chip runs stable at 1400mhz, then it's probably the right 1.4Ghz chip. If not, then it's the wrong kind.

Also, the motherboard can be called mainboard, or systemboard. All terms are interchangeable.

How would i find out the megahertz by taking apart the computer? Are you saying that even though the program said Athlon 1.05 Ghz, it could still be a 1.4 Ghz cpu? How do i change the speed in bios and i do i know that it will be stable? Thanks.

I changed the FSB from 100 to 133 and now it says Athlon 1.4 Ghz but at the bottom it says Warning exceeding FSB rate. What does that mean? I just need to know what kinda cpu this really is.

You can also try using WCPUID to find out your processor and motherboard specs....

When i change my FSB from 100 to 133 both programs say that i have an Athlon 1.4 Ghz. But when the FSB is back to 100 both programs say that i have an Athlon 1.05 Ghz. Am i overclocking the cpu or something? I dont have a clue what an FSB is. So i still dont know what my cpu is. A 1.05 Ghz or a 1.4 Ghz?
