Windows 2000 networking question

I have two computers(windows 2000 ntfs and windows98 se) sharing a cable connection, using a netgear rt314 router.

I would like to set these up as a lan also.

In the network and dial up connection window under the advanced (advanced settings) pull down for my local area connection, there is a listing of available adapters and bindings.

In this box I have file and print sharing for microsoft networks checked
under that I have NetBeui protocol checked
note.. I do not have tcp/ip checked

Under that I have Client for Microsoft networks checked
and under that I have NetBeui protocol checked
note.. I do not have tcp/ip checked

They are listed in this order.

My first question is it safe to assume file and print sharing is only bound to the netbeui protocol?

Also should I re order these to get tcp/ip on the top of the list?

Thanks
Jon

Don't ever assume anything about your bindings. Once you add file and print sharing, check back and make sure that it is only bound to NetBEUI.

I wouldn't worry about the order of the protocols under the services. The bindings are the sticky bit and you seem to have a decent understanding of that area.

I would recommend password-protecting all of your shares.

Cheers,
