Worried About Scanning My School Network for a Class Assignment

Hello, I’m currently taking a networking class, and one of our assignments involves using Zenmap to perform basic scans like host discovery, port scanning, OS detection, and service version detection. The instructions say we can scan our local network, but they also emphasize being careful and having permission.
I’m a little worried about potentially getting into trouble because I’m connected to my school’s network, and my local IP is part of the campus range. I don’t want my work for an assignment to be mistaken for anything malicious. I’ve been limiting my scans to a single host and avoiding aggressive or vulnerability scans, but I’m still unsure where the line is and if this is what I'm supposed to do. I already got flagged for using a vpn last year, and my school accounts were locked, so I don't want to get into trouble again
What’s the best way to complete them without causing issues or raising concerns with my school's IT department?
Any advice would be helpful. Tyyyyy
