Hello guys,

I'm having an issue. When I first got DSL, my ping to a game server was around 100ms. However, after I reformatted my hard drive, my ping jumped to over 150ms. At times, it even exceeds 1000ms. Even when my ping stabilizes at 150ms, my router occasionally pauses for a second or two, but my ping remains at 150ms.

Additionally, I've noticed that when I start pinging, it usually begins at 150ms, but after a few minutes, it tends to rise. I've tried using Ispeed and all the patches available on SpeedGuide, but nothing seems to improve the situation.

Here are the specs of my computer:

ASUS AV7 with a Duron 800 MHz processor
160 MB of RAM
Diamond Viper Ultra 770 graphics card
3Com NIC (possibly an OfficeConnect, though I'm not sure as I'm not at home right now)
Flowpoint 2200 DSL router

Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Damn! I haven't seen specs like that for a VERY LONG time.

If this started after you reformatted, it may be related to your PC and the OS, however, latency is usually caused by the feed your ISP provides.
The Asus AV7 and Duron is 20-year old gear, what type of Operating System do you run?
How is your PC connected to the DSL router, Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi ?
What is the CPU load on the computer when you're experiencing high pings? High load on your machine can lead to some increase in latency too. Some Network Adapter tweaks may be relevant:

I would do a simple traceroute to a server (maybe one of the gaming servers), in command prompt, for example: tracert speedguide.net
This should show pings to each "hop" on the path between you and that particular host.
