Any thoughts?

https://www.ultraviewer.net/en/20000014 ... f-use.html

Trying to help my father on the other side of the country and TeamViewer now cuts out after 5 minutes, so we had to re-connect over and over.

What a bitch.

Try RustDesk
https://rustdesk.com/

Microsofts built in QuickAssist is also very good!

TeamViewer used to be good until they started this crap marking individuals as "business use" and demanding steep license fees.
Never tried RustDesk, thanks for sharing! Looks interesting but requires non-trivial setup of self-hosting it seems.

I would opt for using Remote Desktop, or Ultra VNC. You will have to know his IP address, and he may have to open a port in the router/Windows firewall for UltraVNC though.

RuskDesk has a free public relay server by default it uses.
Many smaller MSPs set up their own hosted server for better performance.

UltraView an "teamviewer" like option..growing in populatiry.

Windows built in quick assist...as well as the above two options, do not need any public IP info or any port forwarding.

Ah, if it's an easy setup for non-technical clients, without installing a server, tinkering with router port forwarding and Windows firewall then that is a game changer, will definitely try it out, thanks.
