Was looking for a cheap/basic soldering station a couple days ago. Have been thinking about just buying one so I can write a review about how the product is not as pictured... or a review of how it matches the picture but does not include the soldering iron, or any of the other stuff. That ASIN in the amazon search field is still working as of this post. :p

Fuggit, ordered one for sheets and giggles. It maintained the same image through the purchase process.

I'll probably forget all about this in the morning and wonder why I bought this thing later next week.

Good point, rodent! I bet that I will hear him holler all the way from Calipr0nia, to here in FL when he gets the cap from that 'plug' stuck! Can't wait to hear about him trying to insert the batteries! :D :rotfl:

Heya, Phil, Rand-man and Kenneth!

LOL!!! Too funny! I mean I am a pretty open-minded guy. Willing to try most anything once. Maybe this was my subconscious steering me towards something new :p .

In all honesty though, for $25 this is a really nice soldering station. I bought it on a laugh but I am really happy with it. Heavy base, copper desoldering braid and sponge, battery/wall plug illuminated magnifier, etc. Only thing I had to add was a heatsink for $8. My only criticisms were the gooseneck on the magnifier could be longer and the helical spring soldering iron holder could have been stiffer. I could have bought a much nicer pro-grade setup from Hakko at a premium, but I need to wire control boxes maybe 2 to 4 times a year so not worth the extra cost.

Anyways, I know I only pop in from time to time but it's nice to see friendly/familiar text. My work has be balancing the usual with the unexpected (and often unprepared). Aside from the occasional frustrations it's pretty rewarding. It may sound odd but not knowing exactly what the next workday will bring has kept me from hating my job. Beyond that, I'm pretty much the same doofus I always was, only with a much longer and much grayer beard.

I'll try and stop in more often. SG has always been there when I needed it. Must try to return the favor. :)
