Mobile wifi speed exceeds 70mb/s - laptop can't exceed 2mb/s?

I've had a really bad problem on my laptop recently

I have just fixed 2 other problems with it, including the operating system and a broken battery, and now I have found another..

My internet is outrageously poor, and although I am 3 floors away from the router, when I compare my mobile and laptop speed differences from the same position, laptop can be 60x worse!?

It doesn't stop there, almost every minute, the laptop will disconnect, become limited and force me to turn wifi on and off. The problem is super annoying and I've tried updating drivers like many forums suggestion yet still nothing! If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them below, or require any extra information.. I'm coming up to an important exam season thus I can't allow my studying to suffer due to the fact I cannot use my laptop to revise.

How can I fix this, or tweak anything to get my internet speed upwards and avoid it's constant disconnection?!

Thanks in advanced!

Does the speed get better when you come close to the router? What happens when you use a lan cable? Did you check in settings if the power saving profile is enabled? It might be set to activate once you run on battery!

It could also be an issue with the network adapter on the laptop (or its' range/antenna, that will improve as you get closer). If you have some USB Wi-Fi network adapter you can try it instead.
