Hello

I'm having some problems with my wireless speed. I have a 20mbps connection which I am able to achieve at one point in the room however when a move just a few meters further away this decreases to around 0.5. Can anyone suggest any reasons for this and how to solve it?

Thanks

There are many things that can affect wireless signal:

1. Interference - are there any devices next to the wireless router/access point ? Try to move any modem, power supply, fluorescent light, or any other possible source of EMI at least a foot or two away from the access point.
1a. Interference from other networks - You have to pick a channel that is unused (and couple of channels apart) from other wireless networks in the area. This is very likely the issue.

2. Antennas - High-gain antennas tend to be very directional, the normal antennas that come with access points are usually sufficient for coverage

3. WiFi technology - newer 802.11n/ac routers have beamforming and MiMo technologies helping them work better in noisy environments, the 5GHz spectrum is usually less crowded.
