I love video games and I play a lot of them. But I always played single player games as I never thought online multiplayer games are exciting. Recently, my friend compelled me to play a few multiplayer games. That’s when I realized that multiplayer games are more exciting than single player games. I decided to play a few multiplayer games at my home. I am upgrading my internet connection. My computer is decent to play any single player games and I hope it would do good with multiplayer games as well. I don’t know how much bandwidth and speed is required for online games. What kind of internet plan is decent enough for most online games? My friend uses internet connection by ABC Communications in Vancouver. But I am from Toronto and they don’t have service here. Can someone help me in picking an internet plan which offers good speed and bandwidth limit suitable for online gaming from any ISP in the Toronto region? I don’t play more than a couple of hours every day. So I am not looking for a very expensive plan.

Most online games do not require a lot of bandwidth. Some are more demanding than others, but all should work ok on most broadband internet connections, such as DSL or Cable, let's say over 5 Megabits is best. What is more important than bandwidth for many online shooters is latency (a.ka. ping, rtt).

You can test your latency using the tracert and ping commands in command prompt, you shouldn't have more than ~20ms latency to your local ISP, and let's say up to ~50ms to a game server near you. If it goes higher, chances are your online game will feel "glitch" with characters jumping around and sniping you out of nowhere. You can ask your neighbors what's best, I doubt someone outside your area will have much insight on who provides the most stable connection in your neighborhood.
