Computing wasn't cheap in the early days.

That RAM upgrade is pretty cheap. I remember EDO RAM being much more expensive than that.
I recall ordering up a Micron Millenium computer back in the Windows 95 days, I was eagerly waiting for the Pentium "MMX" processor to hit the street. So I ordered up the Pentium MMX 166....getting a Diamond Supra 33.6 modem, Sound Blaster 16 sound, a "high end" Diamond graphics card with a "rare" at that time 4 megs of onboard video, and it was a major decision budget wise to either go with 16 megs of RAM, 24 megs, or 32 megs (which was unaffordable at the time)

I remember a friend of mine (who was into computers from the start) telling me he was buying a 2nd floppy drive for his machine and it was something like $275.

I remember when my friend got his brand new 75mhz Packard Bell Desktop. I was like how much faster do they need to make computers, this is amazing!
My first real PC(not one of my mothers work IBM model 60s/90s) was a 233nhz Pentium 1, 64MB RAM, 4gig HDD, 4MB S3 Virge Graphics card, SB Awe64 sound card. That was over 2k for all that.
That Awe64 was really great too.

I remember when the price hit a dollar a MB. I got a boner that day.
Dad paid 800 for 4Mb back in 1991 for his 386X DOS comp with a SVGA 15" monitor.

I had a 25MHz 386 SX (no math co-processor) in 91-92, that cost about 2K with the monitor/keyboard, came with a free 2400 baud modem. I was able to contact some BBSes and get on Fidonet with it... It had 2MB of RAM, upgrading to 4MB was about $80.
