I have cable internet with 25mbps download. Today I am getting 5.04mbps in a speed test. 4 days ago I tested it with the internet provider with the comuter attached directly to modem and got 22.8mbps, once the router was rebooted I was getting 20mbps now 4 days later it is down (before the reboot, it was 1.8 mbps). I contacted the router manufaturer and they said that the router was fine, it was my laptop, but what is it that is slowing down my wireless? I have one wired computer and a wireless computer. Router is Linksys WRT31ON V2As you can tell, I am certainly not the most tech savy!

Have you updated the firmware recently? Usually, if there is an update, it will fix problems like this.

Does speed drop with only wired connection, or with only wireless. Firmware of router is up to date. What about the drivers of the network and wireless adapters in the computers?

It's not your laptop. It's the router. Linksys has a past history of problems. go with a d-link or netgear. their pretty cheap these days.

Bullsh**. Linksys/Cisco are VERY reliable.
