In Brazil I am 4,700 miles away from my hometown New York city.
Most of the servers I frequent are in the United States.Obviously my ping is over 200 most of the time. How can I tweak my connection to these locations in the continental United States?

Thanks in advance :)

Ping cannot be tweaked. If you run a TCP Analyzer test and post your results we can try to optimize your connection for better speeds.

I ran the TCP optimizer with TCP Windows auto tuning disabled.Optimized for 2mb's.
My results are as is...

IP address: 189.112.xx.xxx
Client OS: Windows 7

TCP options string: 020405ac01010402
MSS: 1452
MTU: 1492
TCP Window: 65340 (multiple of MSS)
RWIN Scaling: 0 bits
Unscaled RWIN : 65340
Recommended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104, 1022208
BDP limit (200ms): 2614kbps (327KBytes/s)
BDP limit (500ms): 1045kbps (131KBytes/s)
MTU Discovery: ON
TTL: 52
Timestamps: OFF
SACKs: ON
IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

Should I leave the TCP Windows auto tuning enabled for Windows 7 and run the Optimizer again?
Btw,my modem/bridged router is already set to 1492 for MTU as well.

You want auto tuning enabled. By running TCP Optimizer and selecting the optimal button at the bottom it should enable auto tuning. Try that and post another TCP Analyzer.

Here is a speed test closest to my house.

Those speed tests look good for 2mb/1mb. The most you can hope for when tweaking is 90% of your total connection speed in a best case scenario. Your doing good :thumb:

I don't know how you would go about tweaking Linux. I even did a search of the forum. Try posting this question on http://www.linuxquestions.org/.

Maybe you can ask there for a tool that will let you tweak the settings. Once you find a tool that works under Linux maybe I can help you with the settings.

Well, just changing the MTU to 1492 got me almost the same exact speed as on a tweaked Windows 7 install.I will look into further tweaking for Ubuntu 10.10.Thanks again.
