Who makes a good refrigerator?

Our Frigidaire has had a ton of problems.

Been through 2 full ice maker replacements, a partial 3rd replacement, a defroster coil, inverter, and now the circuit board.

Basically it seems like 3 main players , Electrolux, GE, and Whirlpool, own all the other brands or make units for them, and have their share of issues.

Does LG make its own or are theres made by the main 3 as well?

Good question.. I've got a Frigidaire and it's worked great cept for the water dispenser since the tubes are up against the freezer section and freeze up when I want to keep it a little colder in the fridge side vs the stock setting.

I have a GE side by side from Lowes. The clear plastic piece on the ice dispenser that funnels the ice to your glass has came loose a few times but it's been running like a champ for 5 years.

Made in the USA. In the same town Humboldt works in.

No gimmicks to them, thick insulation takes up a lot of space, and probably pricey, but hey not made by the big three

LG would be my vote. I have a Kenmore/Frigidaire. It's ok, nothing special, has worked fine for over 5 years now, but I've had problems with other Frigidaires. Whirlpool/Maytags are junk in my opinion.

Amana's are great too.

Just bought this one...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Whirlpool+- ... Id=9217126

Funny thing is, i work for Whirlpool Corp. and get a significant discount through the company.
However, the way it works is that i have to wait till the "real" customers get theirs...
unfortunately, the refrigeration production rate is at about 64-69% at this time, so that would mean i will be waiting for my fridge for about 2-3 months.
I need it now. Current fridge (Roper)is on its way out and i cant wait that long,
luckily for me Best Buy had a sale this weekend that was within $6 of my Whirlpool discount... and i will have it saturday. WOOT!

but recommendations, Whirlpool(they are good, not cause i work there)
Samsung
LG

The repair guy said if he had to choose that the Whirlpool brands would be his choice as well. Said the repair costs are generally low.

i would agree, but the repairs, at least in my experience, will be many. Is that saving you money?

All depends on how much goes wrong. He said LG is good quality but when things do go bad repairs can be pricey.

We had an old Amana(a whirlpool brand) that did great for 15 years, I think it only had 1 problem and it was a simple fix. Doesn't look like there will be another like that again. heh.

I like mine.. and the replacement water filter I don't worry about, because my wife finds the best prices on line, orders them and installs it herself. :thumb: To me, the whole unit seems to be built well.
