Congrats on the 36 hours but... Get back to me when it's 3600 hours.
I'm not trying to be an ass here but EVERYONE who smokes should sincerely try to stop. There's no other reason to smoke other than you're addicted to it.
Next time you're near a high school and you see some 16 y/o trying to smoke and look cool maybe then you'll realize how stupid it really is.

Hey, here I sit with Emphysema, COPD, Hemosiderosis, sucking on oxygen and cigarettes still smell like fillet mignon to me. I can't even say for sure how many times I tried to quit. Must of been close to 100 before I was successful. I really don't know, I just know everytime I thought I was done, I found myself lighting up another one.

Agreed. Doesn't make it any easier though.
Quitting cigarettes is a bitch.

Just so you know I'm not trying to chastise anyone, I use to smoke 2 packs a day. It's been about 18 years since I quit. I tried and tried just like everyone else. You'll know when the time is right. I realized it when I would get up in the middle of the night to pee and I would be lighing up a cigarette.

Quitting cigarettes is a bitch.
When I quit I found that smelling old smoke in my clothes, and house etc. triggered me to want a cigarette. So, I slowly cleaned what I could to rid it of tobacco odors and stains.
I quit cold turkey almost twenty years ago. I kept a pack of cigarettes in my cupboard for at least a year. My strategy was that no one, no where at any time could tell me I couldn't smoke, including myself. Every day that went by I knew I had that choice. But, as each day passed, I chose not to light up and before ya knew it...I was thinking less and less about them.
I used to dream I'd be in the back seat of a car smoking a cigarette that was at least three feet long. I guess I was in the backseat to make room for it in the car.

you can do it,it is hard,in 2000 I quit a 27 year 2.5 pack-a-day habit,and have loved it ever since.I used money for a motivator,Marlboro lights at $5 a pack helped a lot for me.
it took my 4 tries ,but I did it.
so can you.

Good idea, helps for me too.
My problem is that if I'm trying to quit there's no way in hell I could keep an unopened pack in my house.

I psyched myself out so much that when I finally got down to my decidedly last pack I chain smoked the whole pack just so I could be done and over with it. That was a few years ago and I haven't touched a cigarette since.
Instead of thinking about how much you want a cigarette, think about how much you don't want one.

Well it's not all cigarette induced, but they sure didn't help the situation any.

I can relate to that. When I go on diets, there are some foods that I cannot have in the house tempting me, PERIOD!

No, but I do have to say, the desire never went away. When you can't even walk to the bathroom without desaturating to around 80%, it's time to take a serious look at things.

Well my wife still smokes. Tries not to smoke around me, but she ducks into the utility room, then the furnace picks it up and kicks it throughout the house anyhow. It's kind of a bummer for me, but I keep reminding myself that If I hate breathing the way I do now, it would be worse to pick up a cig.

That's not cool.
The least she could do is step outside, or install an exhaust fan.

She does spend most of her time outside, but when the weather is crap, she uses the utility room. Our exhaust fan sucks. It doesn't do a good job at all. Something about the way this house is built.
If it weren't her, it would be somewhere else in public that I'd have to deal with the temptation anyhow. You just have to get through your mind that it's a big no no and then deny the temptations as they arise.

Phsical activity helps a lot

I could help you stay occupied
Sorry to hear about the lapse.
When are you quitting again?
I see no shame in failure, cigarettes are a bitch.
Mind over...everything else.
