Windows 7 and Charters 60meg/5meg plan..tweaking needed?

Hey guys. Wow...I have been here 9 years. Time flies.

I have Windows 7 and I just subscribed to Charters 60megabit download and 5megabit upload plan. The CPU I have is a I7 920 @ 3.8gigahertz | 6gigs of DDR3 ram in tri channel | Solid State 60gig OS drive | Motorola SB 6120 Cable modem | IntelPro100S NIC.

I am wired directly from the cable modem to the NIC on my PC with Windows 7 firewall running. The speeds I am getting now are 64-67megabit down and 5.2megabit upload. The speeds seem fine. I was just wondering should I even bother with any tweaking? I have 4 bonded channels on the downstream and 2 of them on the up. My power levels on the downstream are a little high (12dbm), my SNR is 39 (downstream).

What do you guys think?

Thanks! :)

Well to be honest...it is very nice. The speeds I am getting from newsgroups (astraweb) are 60-67 megabit - 8.4 MB/s. Everything in Newsbin Pro is on the solid state. Charter really hit 60meg out of the ballpark. I am extremely satisfied. The Motorola SB6120 is such a nice cable modem. The only thing is with speeds that fast, security becomes even more of an issue, as you guys know.

I have setup my entire apartment for outside access. From my A/V receiver, all my consoles and computing hardware are able to be remotely accessed from me anywhere. It is well worth the money I am paying. Just need to upgrade to a better NIC and a wireless router.

I think I am going to leave everything as it is. Thanks guys for the opinions.

:)

I just got 100/5 from Shaw and it's pretty awesome also. I get 60-70 Mbps during busy times and 85-95 Mbps when its not. Shaw is redoing the fiber in my area after Christmas which would make it more consistent at all times. Although I can't find a good speed test site, highest test I have ever got was like 50 Mbps which doesn't compare to the speed I download of Usenet (Supernews).

You should tweak it I'll tell you why ctcp or compound tcp was ment for that higher bandwith pipes since you got a faster pipe then most people it wouldn't be a bad idea to use that same goes with the auto tunning stuff as well

Use the sg vista patch to tweak if doesn't work it does have an undo option
