Pls Help !! My internet connection stops receiving data.

Hey guys,
I have an adsl connection. And I have been having an annoying problem. My internet connection stops receiving at random times for around a minute or half. And then it starts receiving again. And the cycle goes on.
This is especially annoying because I play counter strike online and this brief stop is enough to either time me out of the game or show a "Warning: Connection Problem" error.
Please help me out guys.

Any problem using the phone to make a call?
How old is your modem? Is it too hot to touch when connection fails?

Nope, no problem using the phone to make a call. But yeah, sometimes when the phone rings, the connection stops receiving for a while and comes back on.
I forgot to mention that my modem is connected to a hub and my PC,my friend's PC and my laptop are in the network. I tried ICS by connecting my modem to my PC and my PC to the hub but couldn't work out the IP adresses. So, I had to connect the modem as well to the hub. Do you think it's the hub that is causing the problem. I have tried disabling the network and using the internet but the problem still exists.
Any suggestions?

Is the phone set placed next to the modem?

Problem is in hop 2.
You said that your modem, and all the other comps are connected to the Hub.
Is your modem connected to the ISP's line on one side, and to the Hub on the other?
Are there any signal or power cable coiled up?

Thank you for the response.
Yes, the modem is connected to the ISP's line on one side, and to the Hub on the other.
There is a cable that is coiled up. But it is a network cable for my friend's PC. It is not that of the modem. And the power cable isn't coiled.

Any Help?

Have you made sure to double check that all of your phone sets have ADSL filters on them?
If not, this might explain why the line intermittently drops out when you receive a call.
If you are in need of any more filters, your ISP could probably provide them for you, or you can purchase them at your nearest radio shack equivelant store.

Phone, fax machine, or any similar device that connects directly to the phone line needs a microfilter, even if the phone socket is in another room.

Never heard of a filter before. My ADSL connection goes like this. There is a splitter on the main line. One comes to the modem and the other is further divided into two lines. One for the ground floor and another for the first floor. I dont know what's causing problems.

What kind of splitter is on the main line?
Like this?

No, the splitter on the main line doesn't look like the one you posted.
It looks similar to this

My modem is a TP-link TD-8610 adsl modem.

The one you showed is the same - one socket at one end, and 2 sockets at the other end.
The one socket is to connect the splitter to the telephone socket at the wall.
The other end with 2 sockets, the one marked 'ADSL' is to connect to the modem, and the other marked 'Phone' is to be connected to the phone set.
And you said that the one marked 'Phone' has a cable that is further divided into 2 lines? Where do these 2 lines end up?

Oh, the two lines are each connected to phone sets so that we have a phone on both floors.

Disconnect the phone line at the splitter for an hour and see if your internet line still gets disconnected.
Usually, we split the phone line at a point before it gets to the splitter. So only one phone set is connected to the splitter. The other phone set is also connected to a microfilter and then to the phone line.

Thank you for the information. I had no idea how to split the phone line. So, I had to split it after the splitter. Besides, I'm not sure if I can find a microfilter here.
I disconnected the phone line and started playing CS. I got disconnected once. After that, the game has been going smooth upto now. But I'm not 100% sure if the change caused it. On the other hand it also looks like that was the problem. Oh I'm so confused. Please help.

You will need to call in the telephone technician to come in to rewire the phone line. Basically, you need to run a main telephone line to the last phone set. Your modem should be the first tap off from this main line.
Also tell the telephone technician you need 2 new ADSL splitters and he will know how to install the system.

I just looking at my ISP's site. They say that the setup must be like what I have already.
Please have a look at this page.

What you ISP shown can also be done, but the quality of the ADSL splitter should be one that is able to support multiple phone sets. I usually see a max. of 2 devices connected to the phone socket of the splitter - an answering machine and a phone set, and only one device is being used at any one time.
In your present case, I suggest you first replace the ADSL splitter.
