Glad everyone is OK. A similar thing happened to me years ago. A car actually. The street in front of my house is on a very steep hill. A woman parked her car about a half a block up the street and left it in drive. After she got out and went into her house the car slowly started to back down the street. My guess is once the compression bleed of in the cylinders the motor started to turn over. It went down the hill though an intersection and then bounced off of the curb on the opposite side of the street. Then it went though my neighbors drive way opening, across my lawn, and hit a brick planter just a feet from my house. It totaled the planter and pushed the corner of my picture window in a couple of inches. If the brick planter hadn't have been there I think the car would have ended up in my living room. Would have pushed in the foundation too. About 30 minutes latter I saw a woman walking down the hill looking for her car.
On the plus side her insurance replaced my living room window and nobody got hurt.

Pleased your household is ok...not so the driver?

It's a sad thing...but the house can be repaired.

ouch that is alot of damage. Look at the bright side. be glad its summer and looks like you'll get a new TV if you have renters insurance!

Not sure if the roof was sagging before, however, there is quite a bit of structural damage... I would make sure that it is checked out by a structural engineer before occupying it again... Even though no damage has been done to the back of the house, trusses/bracing, etc., often rely upon other areas for support...

What I am trying to say (It is still too early in the morning for me.) is that you need to find another place to live until the structure has been thoroughly checked... (ie., whole roof could collapse, wiring shorts cause fire, etc...)

Did you rent or own? Insurance?

on the flip side, you will get a small remodeling job.

It's a rental, our landlord has us in a hotel until the inspectors decide whether or not it can be rebuilt, and we decide whether or not we want to live there.

You're right about the structural damage, two concrete columns which supported the living room area are gone, the entire house has shifted on it's other support columns by almost two inches, and there are stress cracks and buckles along drywall seems throughout all the back rooms.

Oh, and that roof did not sag before. It was supported by brick pillars and 6x6 wood columns which ended up in multiple pieces twenty feet away. The fire department wedged those two boards under it in an effort to minimize stress on the rest of the house but it's obviously not safe to be near.

Unfortunately, our landlord finished the remodel less than two weeks ago, the house was entirely new from the frame up.

it sounds as though you have some luck comparable to mine.

What I meant by the hang up comment was I was willing to say the driver was on a damn cell phone while driving when it happened. Far too many reports have shown even with hands free you really shouldn't be on them when driving.

Curious to hear about the cause later on if you add to it...not to mention the drivers insurance paying for you a new house!

All we know until the police report comes out is that he was a college age kid who was a frat pledge coming from a frat party. Clearly alcohol and possibly other substances were involved.

We found this in our living room, and NONE of us drink "natty light."

Since we're all students our personal property is covered by each of our parents home owner insurance.

Property wise we're only out a few pieces of furniture and there's only a tiny scratch on the TV. After deductibles an insurance claim may not even be worth it, but we're still calculating all that up.

The police report is not out yet, i'm guessing it's waiting on autopsy and toxicology results. Some stories will probably come out about it once the report is published.
