Recommendations?

I normally just use Windows picture and fax viewer but I'm wondering what else is out there. There are times I want to look at several images at once to compare differences and pick the one I like the best. Picture viewer only lets me look at one at a time unless they're thumbnailed. It'd be nice to be able to look at maybe 4 at once at 1/4 size to be able to compare them.

Any suggestions?

Might have to get Photoshop. Multiple instances of IrfanView works ok but is a pain to open and resize everything.

Picasa isn't too bad either.

Have to recommend ACDSee, that program is amazing.

I really love Lightroom for most of my photo needs. Not only is it great for making selects and comparing and cutting and getting down to the best photos in your session or vacation or trip or part or whatever; it's also got tons of great editing and tweaking tools. After that it has really good tools for sending to the printer, sending to an online photo album, sending to a disk or folder to send to be printed, or sent to your web page. It's a great product and another great thing is that it's made by Adobe and works really well with other Adobe programs like Photoshop. In fact, it's technically called Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. I find myself rarely needing Photoshop now because Lightroom does a lot of photo tweaking that I used to do in Photoshop. Still Photoshop is good for layering and cutting and manipulating multiple photos or layers. I also like the fact that I can tether my camera to the computer using Lightroom. It's great for product photography and studio work like family photo studio shoots.

For reviews of photographers there is angie's list family portrait reviews which is reviews from customers of family portrait photographers for your area.

Lightroom is good - it's part of the photoshop family of software. I haven't used it much but a lot of the people I know who are into photography do use it pretty extensively. I'm more of a photoshop/bridge person myself, just haven't put in the time to mess with lightroom.
