Hi everyone,
I am having serious broadband issues so I signed up to the forum and have been running through some of the tweaks.
I have ran the TCPOptimizer and the SG_Vista_TcpIP_Patch.cmd. I am on Virgin Media's XL package in the UK (which boasts a 20MB line) and got the following results.
« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »
Tested on: 05.06.2009 14:28
IP address: 81.107.xx.xx
Client OS: Windows Vista x64
TCP options string: 020405b00103030201010402
MSS: 1456
MTU: 1496
TCP Window: 17472 (multiple of MSS)
RWIN Scaling: 2 bits (2^2=4)
Unscaled RWIN : 4368
Recommended RWINs: 64064, 128128, 256256, 512512, 1025024
BDP limit (200ms): 699kbps (87KBytes/s)
BDP limit (500ms): 280kbps (35KBytes/s)
MTU Discovery: ON
TTL: 47
Timestamps: OFF
SACKs: ON
IP ToS: 00000000 (0)
TCP Global Parameters
----------------------------------------------
Receive-Side Scaling State : enabled
Chimney Offload State : enabled
Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level : disabled (have previously tried normal)
Add-On Congestion Control Provider : ctcp
ECN Capability : disabled
RFC 1323 Timestamps : disabled
I understand that RWIN can't be manually set using Windows Vista but am fairly sure that it is the reason for my slow downloads. Is there a way to remove the restriction? Does
BDP limit (200ms): 699kbps imply that I can only download at a maximum 699kb/sec ?
I am using Netgear WGR614v9 wireless router but still think I should be getting higher speeds than I am.

I have digital cordless phones, Is that likely to interfere with the wireless signal ? I'll try a different channel

Changed the wireless channel from 6 to 11 and although I now have consistent pings in hop 1 it times out after that.

Did you uncoil the excess cable?
Any other coiled power cables nearby?

No coiled wires at all. The coaxial cable runs behind a television. Could that have anything to do with it ?

behind a television
Cable may be interferenced by this television ! Try relocating cables far away from electrical devices. When done, post new tracert.

Also, my uncle just bought a new laptop and I tried downloading the same file on this computer and on his laptop (which incidently was placed further away from the router) on this computer I averaged 320kb/sec whereas on his laptop i averaged 1.4Mb/sec. Is it possible that my old wireless NIC just isnt up to it?
I might go buy a wireless NIC today or tomorrow. Can you recommend a particularly fast model for use with Vista Premium 64? Also, am i better of using an internal NIC or a USB dongle?
Cheers
