I usually go tell management after I ask them to please shut up or turn phone off the first time... but the management talk often gets the ones doing it thrown out and me free tickets to another movie. If its something I can't stand vs talking or answering a cell phone is the very bright light of a cell phone in front of me with someone checking text messages... there should be jammers installed in theaters!

Once in a blue moon, we'll go to a theater, but it's rare and usually we go to a morning show with few people in it.

I like the idea of jammers, but then people out who have kids or something and could very likely get an emergency call wouldn't like that, and people that are considerate can have them on and not bother people.

I don't have much of a problem. I think if you avoid going to a movie the first week its out you get around a lot of those people.

We had theaters and people going to them well before cell phones were available..see what people would do is tell someone where they were going and if a emergency came up they could call the theater and use the land line.

so the excuse about emergency calls doesn't fly for me unless its something we always had when theaters were in existence.

Phone on vibrate, and a quick call or text of an emergency isn't a big deal.

Most of the time you see the screens of the phones regularly during a movie is when people are recording it or maybe they're bored. Thats mostly in the first week IMO, so just wait and all is well.

Only 1 time in the last... 5-10 years have I had to deal with someone annoying during a movie. And if you pay full attention to the film you probably won't see the cellphone screens anyway. Unless you have ****** seats.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who goes to a movie to watch and not yap. It is very annoying when someone talks during the show. I also can't stand narrators who have seen the movie before. "Oh watch this part" "Wait 'till you see this".

My wife and I sat right in front of the most annoying person on earth during Saving Private Ryan. He talked the whole time and ate popcorn so loud it made us grimace. When someone got shot he would say, "You know that hurt" or "Holy crap did you see that?" No $hit Sherlock, I'm watching too.

Vibrate or not..its a big deal, the lights on them things are really bright..bright enough to light up a whole room so evening opening them is a annoyance that should be banned. If you need to make a call or accept a call..you get up out of your seat and leave the theater to do it. Regardless of opening day or 10days later its the same thing. But point is the screens on any cell phone is way bright and is enough to really distract someone in a dark theater.

I will say something to you..if you don't like it I'll get up and go get management..it doesn't hurt my feelings one bit to see you thrown out and me a set of free tickets for putting up with dumb people that can't read the signs and postings on the screen about turning cell phones off.

I would say you are easily distracted then.

i just tell my wife to shut up and watch the movie i dont know any more then you.......

not cell phone jamming.. I mean the signs and postings on teh screen about "turn your cell phones off" people don't read and don't listen it seems

The lights on cell phones never really bothered me. With the Stadium seating at my local theater, that's never really been an issue for me. The only time I had an issue at a movie was when I would go to one of those $3 movie theaters in the city where they show older releases. Usually filled with young little punks.

whats the laugh for? Its a dark room with a rule clearly stating "Turn off Cell Phones" the light is very annoying...I pay well over 9$ a ticket to see a movie and I expect to see it without being disrupted by something that was clearly stated in a few different places including the ticket window. I don't always get free tickets unless I really raise hell and thats only been twice. Your missing the point to get your little chuckle on so chuckle away there chief.

I'm with you. Stadium seating would seem to render lights from a cellphone pointless, but perhaps the theaters are different where Sava is.

I always go to Carmike Cinemas and they have Awesome stadium seating, THX surround sound, DLP display.. its great but regardless the lights on them are bright.. I suggest you try it and make sure you look around and see how many sets of eyes are on you from your sides and rear.

Been in plenty of stadium seats. When I check the time on my phone I hold it down low and close to me. As for others I am to busy watching the movie to notice any lights coming from a cell.

I'm busy watching the movie too..but a bright light will draw attention.. please try it, open your phone in front of your chest like normal in a busy theater during a really quiet and focusing time and then look to your right and left and behind you to see how many people are checking you out or giving you bad looks.. report back when you test this.

I'm starting to wonder what kind of light your cellphone has that would draw the kind of attention you are talking about even with the light from the movie screen in the room.

Moto Qs or Blackberrys....I could use my Q like a flashlight....seriously, when approaching my house or car at night I could use it to find me keyhole.

I agree with Sava a bit....I find them annoying. The way some people are with them..holding them up, passing them back 'n forth...traditional theater seats anyone right in front of you, it's a bright light that's distracting (not to mention all the yacking involved with the kids showing each others who just texted them).

Although I'm like Dan...I don't do the movies much, would rather wait for the comfort of my own home to watch them. They come out on disks so quickly these days anyways.

I think Sava is looking to find an annoyance when he goes to the theaters.

I don't disagree with Sava that it's a possibility of this regarding the light I just apparently have been more fortunate when it comes to having considerate people around me. Most people don't open their light and raise it above their head to where I would be looking directly at it.

I do agree with him too,if I DID go to theaters,people using their phones in any manner would bug the crap outta me !

last time I went to a theater I remember that the fat chick behind me crunching her candy,and the idiot in front of me talking,or the ******* behind me kicking my chair,SURE DID PISS ME OFF ! AND MAYBE THATS WHY I DON'T GO TO THEATERS ANYMORE !

but then I don't like barking dogs,or late parties,or loud music,and I AM one of those that calls the cops and animal control on people that don't care about their neighbors !

I remember when Jumper came out... my wife and friend and his wife went, we had these 13ish or young teen girls behind us and were yapping, giggling through the whole movie even parts that were clearly not funny. Then the cell phone conversation kicked in a few times. I got up turned around and did a loud "SHHHH...." they were quiet for maybe another 20mins then started up again. I got up after that and told management whom came right up behind me and told them to be quiet or leave. We enjoyed the rest of the movie after that but I missed about 10mins of it having to deal with that.

The rules for cell phones are clearly posted at the front ticket window, going into the theaters and on the screen before the movie starts in large text... if you can't go by the rules and turn them off then stay out of the theater.

I don't go to theaters much But I can't and won't ever turn my phone off, not anywhere including hospitals. An emergency phone call missed is much more important than a 9 dollar movie. If I must check my phone which is hardly ever I hold in down low by my leg and its Always on vibrate so as not to annoy anyone. Just my 2 cents

not everytime but I've been offered them cause of the trouble...people need to speak up when someone else breaks the rules and why those that blow the whistle are rewarded as such..so there isn't anything funny about it.

Whats wrong with free tickets? You have to take into account that tickets are not cheap...and your paying for a enjoyable movie experience...if I wanted to enjoy someone yapping on the phone or check out bright lights i'll walk around in a mall. Its not unorthodox for a business to offer something such as a theaters free tickets to retain repeat visitors. I really think your only laughing at it cause "I" said it or that "I've" gotten them.
