The finishes on both my cars are in poor shape, I'm going to rub them out with rubbing compound (where needed). Would it be ok/desirable to clay them after rubbing them out?

Yes about once every 6 months. Relatively easy just dont drop the clay. I clay everything, glass, tailights, everything. But clay also takes off wax so you must rewax after.

i am claying /waxing today, the claying part seems really easy on my truck, maybe it wasn't all that bad to begin with.

doesn't take to long and is easy enough, if ya just spray the paint well with the supplied liquid.
